Large Magnetic Gap in a Designer Ferromagnet-Topological Insulator-Ferromagnet Heterostructure

Qile Li et al.

Summary: Combining magnetism and nontrivial band topology can achieve the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect at high temperatures for lossless transport applications. In this study, a heterostructure consisting of two single-septuple layers (1SL) of MnBi2Te4, an ultrathin few quintuple layer (QL) Bi2Te3, and another 1SL MnBi2Te4 was grown via molecular beam epitaxy. The electronic structure was probed using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, and strong hexagonally warped massive Dirac fermions and a bandgap of 75 +/- 15 meV were observed. The magnetic origin of the gap was confirmed, and these findings provide insights into magnetic proximity effects in topological insulators and a promising platform for realizing the QAH effect at elevated temperatures.

An investigation of structural and magnetotransport features of half-Heusler ScPtBi thin films

Ozgur Polat et al.

Summary: Half-Heusler materials have attracted significant attention due to their unique electrical, magnetic, and optical properties. This paper investigates the structural, morphological, and compositional properties of ScPtBi half-Heusler thin films grown under different conditions. The study reveals the presence of weak antilocalization effect and strong spin-orbit coupling in the films. Hall effect measurements demonstrate that electrons are the dominant charge carriers in the films.

Efficient Spin-to-Charge Interconversion in Weyl Semimetal TaP at Room Temperature

Joaquim B. S. Mendes et al.

Summary: This paper presents the spin-to-charge current conversion properties in the Weyl semimetal TaP using the inverse Rashba-Edelstein effect with the integration of this quantum material with the ferromagnetic metal Permalloy. The spin currents generated in the Permalloy layer are detected by a dc voltage along the TaP crystal. The observed voltage is attributed to spin-to-charge current conversion based on the intrinsic spin-orbit coupling induced by the band structure of Weyl semimetals.

Optically excited spin dynamics of thermally metastable skyrmions in Fe0.75Co0.25Si

J. Kalin et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the microwave spin excitations of the cubic chiral magnet Fe0.75Co0.25Si driven by thermal modulation of magnetic interactions via laser heating. The dynamic properties of the topologically nontrivial skyrmion lattice state are compared in thermodynamic equilibrium and a metastable state prepared by rapid field cooling. We find precessional and exponential contributions to the dynamic response, characteristic of a breathing mode and energy dissipation, respectively. The precession frequencies in the equilibrium and metastable skyrmion state show excellent quantitative agreement when universal scaling as a function of temperature is taken into account. This finding highlights the great flexibility of far-from-thermal-equilibrium skyrmion states for microwave applications and the study of fundamental properties.

Vector soliton and noise-like pulse generation using a Ti3C2MXene material in a fiber laser

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a Tm:Ho co-doped fiber laser was built using Ti(3)C(2)MXene material as a saturable absorber, and the formation of vector solitons (VSs) and noise-like pulses (NLPs) was observed. The VSs were characterized by two coexisting sets of Kelly sidebands, and by modulating the polarization controller in the fiber laser, NLPs with about 3.3 nm bandwidth could be switched from the VSs. This is the first time that VSs have been generated in a fiber laser using Ti(3)C(2)MXene material as the saturable absorber.

Direct Observation of Cycloidal Spin Modulation and Field-induced Transition in Neel-type Skyrmion-hosting VOSe2O5

Takashi Kurumaji et al.

Summary: The study investigates the spin rotational structure of magnetic skyrmions in tetragonal polar magnet VOSe2O5 using polarized small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). It reveals consistent evidence of cycloidal spin modulation in all incommensurate phases, including the triangular skyrmion-lattice phase, along the c axis. Additionally, a field-induced incommensurate phase (IC-2 state) was identified near the skyrmion phase, suggesting the possibility of an anisotropic double-q state as an alternative spin structure to the provisional square skyrmion-lattice state.
