Nanotechnology in stem cell research and therapy

Summary: Stem cell therapy has shown promising results in degenerative diseases and organ replacement, but its therapeutic use is still limited. Nanotechnology has tremendous potential in stem cell research and therapy, specifically in the conformity, replication, and differentiation of stem cells. Despite the potential improvements, there are cytotoxic threats that affect stem cell viability and differentiation. This article discusses the application of nanotechnology in stem cell research and therapy, including isolation tracking, regulation, and enhancing retention of stem cells using nanoparticles.

MSNs have versatile pore sizes, high drug loading efficiency, and can be functionalized to enhance their applicability. This article focuses on MSN-based hybrid nanotheranostics and their designing strategies, characterization, applications, efficacy, limitations, biotoxicity, as well as current challenges and future perspectives.

Effect of glycerol and H3PO4 on the bioactivity and degradability of rod-like SBA-15 particles with active surface for bone tissue engineering applications

Summary: The study demonstrates the bioactivity of SBA-15 mesoporous silica rods obtained through the use of acid mixture and glycerol-modified silane precursor. The materials showed homogeneous shape, high bioactivity, and lack of cytotoxicity when immersed in simulated body fluid and tested with osteoblast precursor cells. Increased H3PO4 concentration led to higher degradability of the materials.

Polydopamine-Coated Copper-Substituted Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles for Dual Cancer Therapy

Summary: Combination therapy using chemodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy has been developed to enhance the effectiveness of cancer treatment. In this study, a biocompatible nano formulation was created by coating polydopamine over doxorubicin-loaded copper-substituted mesoporous silica nanoparticles. The nanocomposites exhibited excellent photothermal conversion and tumor cell inhibition, and the cellular-uptake experiments showed enhanced uptake of doxorubicin in tumor cells. The synthesized nanoparticles can serve as a promising platform for dual cancer therapy.
