Criteria-Based Model of Hybrid Photovoltaic-Wind Energy System with Micro-Compressed Air Energy Storage

Georgios E. E. Arnaoutakis et al.

Summary: The utilization of solar and wind energy is increasing worldwide, and micro-compressed air energy storage (micro-CAES) is considered as a low-cost storage option that can provide demand shifting when coupled with photovoltaics and wind turbines. A model based on preset criteria is presented to determine the distribution of generated energy. Comparisons between micro-CAES and storage batteries show that micro-CAES has higher annual stored energy by 114 kWh.

Direct Sliding Mode Control for Dynamic Instabilities in DC-Link Voltage of Standalone Photovoltaic Systems with a Small Capacitor

Ibrahim Al-Wesabi et al.

Summary: Large electrolytic capacitors used for power decoupling in photovoltaic applications have a short lifetime and are unreliable. Film capacitors offer better reliability and longer lifetime but have a lower capacitance, causing frequency ripples on the DC-link voltage and affecting system performance. This research proposes novel direct sliding mode controllers for managing the DC-link voltage with a small capacitor, improving system performance.

Multiscale Monitoring Using Machine Learning Methods: New Methodology and an Industrial Application to a Photovoltaic System

Hanen Chaouch et al.

Summary: In this study, a multiscale monitoring method for nonlinear processes was developed using a machine learning tool based on kernel PCA and discrete wavelet transform. The proposed method decomposes multivariate data into wavelet coefficients and applies kernel PCA for defect detection. It combines multiscale analysis and kernel PCA to monitor nonlinear processes by considering only the scales with prediction errors exceeding control limits in the data reconstruction phase.
