The cell-type specific role of Arabidopsis bZIP59 transcription factor in plant immunity

Zhiqiang Song et al.

Summary: The transcription factor bZIP59 plays an important role in stomatal immunity in Arabidopsis. It can positively or negatively regulate disease resistance against different pathogens, such as Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato and Tobacco mosaic virus.

Disentangling transcriptional responses in plant defense against arthropod herbivores

Alejandro Garcia et al.

Summary: The study reveals that transcriptomic meta-analysis is an effective approach to uncover physiological processes in plant responses to herbivores. Analysis of Arabidopsis-thaliana interactions with pests highlights key issues in plant responses, such as the specificity of perception and signaling pathways, and the variability in secondary metabolic pathways.

Pyramiding of cry toxins and methanol producing genes to increase insect resistance in cotton

Abdul Razzaq et al.

Summary: This study presents a strategy to improve insect pest control in cotton by enhancing methanol production from cell wall by pectin methyl esterase enzymes (PME) and expressing cry genes from Bacillus thuringiensis. Results showed that transgenic plants expressing cry and pme genes had increased methanol production and higher mortality rates for different insect pests compared to plants expressing only cry genes. This demonstrates that Bt. cry genes coupled with pme genes are an effective approach for controlling insect pests.
