Clinical algorithms for management of fetal heart rate abnormalities during labour

K. W. Cheung et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to construct algorithms for monitoring and managing fetal heart rate bradycardia, late decelerations, and tachycardia during labor. The study emphasized the diagnostic limitations of fetal heart rate monitoring and the need for informed decision-making. Further research on methods of fetal assessment during labor was recommended.

Heart rate during the first 24 hours in term-born infants

Lars Tveiten et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish normal reference ranges and individual variations in heart rate (HR) of healthy term-born infants during the first 24 hours of life using auscultation. The results showed significant variations in HR within the first 24 hours, with factors like awake/asleep state, maternal temperature, and gender influencing the HR values.

Fetal heart rate development during labour

Jarle Urdal et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in fetal heart rate (FHR) towards the end of labor using data from 3711 labors in a low and low-middle income country. Results showed a significant drop in median FHR in the last 150 minutes before birth for all outcome groups, along with an increased spread in FHR over time during labor. The findings suggest that earlier intervention may potentially save lives, particularly for neonates in the perinatal mortality group.

Changes in heart rate from 5 s to 5 min after birth in vaginally delivered term newborns with delayed cord clamping

Peder Aleksander Bjorland et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine heart rate centiles in healthy term newborns delivered vaginally with delayed cord clamping during the first 5 minutes after birth. The results showed that heart rate increased rapidly within the first 30 seconds after birth, peaked at around 61 seconds, and slowly decreased thereafter. The study concluded that heart rates less than 100 bpm during the first minutes after birth are uncommon in healthy newborns after delayed cord clamping.
