The CDC48 complex mediates ubiquitin-dependent degradation of intra-chloroplast proteins in plants

Jialong Li et al.

Summary: The CDC48 complex plays a crucial role in regulating ubiquitin-dependent degradation of intra-chloroplast proteins in response to oxidative stress in Arabidopsis thaliana. Defects in the CDC48 complex impair the ubiquitination and degradation of RbcL and AtpB proteins, leading to the accumulation of ubiquitinated chloroplast proteins. Functional analysis demonstrates that the CDC48 complex is required for plant tolerance to reactive oxygen species (ROS) stress.

Microtubule-based perception of mechanical conflicts controls plant organ morphogenesis

Dorothee Stockle et al.

Summary: Precise coordination between cells and tissues is essential for differential growth in plants. The asymmetry of microtubule arrays in the endodermis and the remodeling of the endodermis are necessary for lateral root initiation. MAP70-5 and cortical microtubule arrays in the endodermis integrate mechanical signals and facilitate lateral root morphogenesis.

Dynamic Rearrangement and Directional Migration of Tubular Vacuoles are Required for the Asymmetric Division of the Arabidopsis Zygote

Hikari Matsumoto et al.

Summary: This study reveals that in Arabidopsis zygotes, vacuolar contents are exchanged dynamically between the apical and basal ends via a tubular network, with vacuoles migrating towards the basal end. Mutants lacking key vacuolar membrane proteins failed to maintain asymmetric vacuolar distribution, leading to symmetric cell division. The study also highlights the importance of YDA-mediated directional migration for establishing polar vacuolar distribution in zygotes.

KINESIN-12E regulates metaphase spindle flux and helps control spindle size in Arabidopsis

Arvid Herrmann et al.

Summary: Experimental evidence is provided for the function of Arabidopsis KINESIN-12E in spindle assembly. The localization of Kinesin-12E is mitosis-stage specific, and its absence leads to changes in kinetochore and prophase and metaphase spindle dynamics.

A type 2C protein phosphatase activates high-affinity nitrate uptake by dephosphorylating NRT2.1

Yuri Ohkubo et al.

Summary: CEPH, a type 2C protein phosphatase, is identified as a crucial enzyme in the N-starvation-dependent activation of NRT2.1, directly dephosphorylating Ser501 to activate high-affinity nitrate uptake in Arabidopsis. CEPH is mainly expressed in epidermal and cortex cells in roots, upregulated by N starvation via a long-distance signaling from shoots mediated by CEPDL2/CEPD1/2. Loss of CEPH leads to decreased nitrate uptake, tissue nitrate content, and plant biomass.
