Analysis of spatiotemporal variation in dissolved organic carbonconcentrations for streams with cropland-dominated watersheds

Yong Q. Tian et al.

Summary: This study used field samples, hydrological modeling, and reclassification analysis of land use data to investigate the spatial and temporal variations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations in cropland streamflow. The results showed that baseflow DOC concentrations from croplands were significantly higher than those from other landcover areas, especially during spring runoff/snowmelt scenarios. Key factors regulating the spatiotemporal DOC concentrations in cropland streamflow were identified, contributing to the improvement of analytical models linking watershed characteristics to carbon cycling processes.

Polyphosphate Accumulation Tracks Incremental P-Enrichment in a Temperate Watershed (Pennsylvania, United States) as an Indicator of Stream Ecosystem Legacy P

Shayna Taylor et al.

Summary: Legacy phosphorus concentrations resulting from historic additions of phosphorus may impede water quality management goals. Stream biofilms' ability to assimilate new polyphosphate was found to vary according to stream legacy phosphorus. Land use types affected P accumulation, with forest cover sites having higher P storage capacity compared to agricultural sites.

Phytoplankton responses to solar UVR and its combination with nutrient enrichment in a plateau oligotrophic Lake Fuxian: a mesocosm experiment

Yun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the response of phytoplankton to ultraviolet radiation largely depends on nutrient availability, with no significant responses in oligotrophic raw water but positive responses in nutrient enrichment. Additionally, different phytoplankton taxa exhibit varied responses to UV radiation, with chlorophytes and dinoflagellates showing positive responses, chrysophytes being sensitive, diatoms showing no significant response, and cyanobacteria's response being nutrient-dependent.
