Correlation between the expression of LAT1 in cancer cells and the potential efficacy of boron neutron capture therapy

Tsubasa Watanabe et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the strength of LAT1 expression strongly influenced the ability of tumor cells to uptake BPA. Squamous cell carcinomas consistently exhibit high levels of LAT1 expression regardless of the primary tumor site. Higher LAT1 expression in tumors was associated with higher expression of cell proliferation markers and poorer patient prognosis.

DNA Damage Response and Repair in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

Grigory V. Mechetin et al.

Summary: Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a promising radiotherapy approach for solid tumors, which has gained recent attention with the development of new neutron sources. BNCT induces DNA damage in tumor cells by reacting B-10 atoms with epithermal neutrons, leading to cell death. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying BNCT's effects are still not well understood. This review outlines the chemistry of DNA damage during BNCT, summarizes the major mechanisms of DNA break sensing and repair, and discusses the repair of BNCT-induced DNA lesions.

Nucleolar localization of c-Jun

Tetsuaki Miyake et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the proto-oncogene c-Jun can be targeted to the nucleolus, and its basic domain contains a unique motif that determines nucleolar localization. While partners such as Fra2 do not co-localize with c-Jun in the nucleolus. A point mutation can result in loss of nucleolar targeting for c-Jun, while its nuclear localization remains intact.

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy: Current Status and Challenges

Song Wang et al.

Summary: Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is an emerging therapy that selectively kills tumor cells by using boron delivery agents to release alpha and lithium particles through neutron-triggered fission. It has been developed for the treatment of various cancers and requires further research on efficient delivery agents and accurate dose measurement systems.

Self-assembling A6K peptide nanotubes as a mercaptoundecahydrododecaborate (BSH) delivery system for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT)

Hiroyuki Michiue et al.

Summary: This study explored the use of self-assembling A6K peptide nanotubes as boron carriers for tumor selective therapy, improving the limitations of BSH in intracellular transduction and non-specific drug delivery. By varying the A6K peptide and BSH mixture ratio, materials with different morphologies were produced, leading to increased intracellular boron uptake efficiency. The findings suggest that A6K peptide offers a unique and simple strategy for enhancing the effectiveness of BNCT drugs.
