Inflammatory and Cardiac Biomarkers in Relation with Post-Acute COVID-19 and Mortality: What We Know after Successive Pandemic Waves

Catalina Lionte et al.

Summary: The study showed that inflammation and cardiac biomarkers have predictive value for post-acute COVID-19 and 30-day mortality in hospitalized noncritically ill COVID-19 patients. NT-pro BNP was found to be independently associated with mortality and remained a predictive factor for 30-day mortality during follow-up.

A Rising Star of the Multimarker Panel: Growth Differentiation Factor-15 Levels Are an Independent Predictor of Mortality in Acute Heart Failure Patients Admitted to an Emergency Clinical Hospital from Eastern Europe

Radu-Stefan Miftode et al.

Summary: The study found that GDF-15 levels were higher in patients with acute HF compared to controls, and were significantly correlated with mortality risk. GDF-15 showed good diagnostic performance in acute HF and outperformed NT-proBNP and troponin in predicting poor outcomes.

A Real Pandora's Box in Pandemic Times: A Narrative Review on the Acute Cardiac Injury Due to COVID-19

Amalia-Stefana Timpau et al.

Summary: The relationship between SARS-CoV-2 and the cardiovascular system is complex, leading to acute cardiac injury. Changes in biomarkers can predict the severity and prognosis of the disease. The mechanism of acute cardiac injury is not yet clear, but it may be related to factors such as direct myocardial injury, hypoxia, sepsis, and inflammation. Immunomodulatory therapy may be a potential therapeutic strategy to prevent severe disease, with both short-term and long-term cardiovascular sequelae being important considerations.

The Relationship between Cardiovascular Risk Scores and Several Markers of Subclinical Atherosclerosis in an Asymptomatic Population

Ovidiu Mitu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between multiple subclinical atherosclerosis parameters and several CV risk scores in asymptomatic individuals. The results showed that different risk scores were associated with markers of subclinical atherosclerosis, suggesting specific cut-off values for the risk scores to indicate the need for subclinical atherosclerosis assessment.
