Index of microcirculatory resistance: state-of-the-art and potential applications in computational simulation of coronary artery disease

Yingyi Geng et al.

Summary: Dysfunction of coronary microcirculation is a significant factor in coronary artery disease (CAD). The index of microcirculatory resistance (IMR) serves as a quantitative evaluation of coronary microcirculatory function, providing valuable insight for the prediction, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of CAD. However, there is a lack of consensus on the normal and pathological ranges of IMR, which restricts its application in computational CAD studies.

Reliable Detection of Myocardial Ischemia Using Machine Learning Based on Temporal-Spatial Characteristics of Electrocardiogram and Vectorcardiogram

Xiaoye Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates whether the combination of ECG and VCG can improve the performance of machine learning algorithms in automatic myocardial ischemia detection. By calculating sample entropy, spatial heterogeneity index, and temporal heterogeneity index, we select the most suitable features as input signal features and use support vector machine algorithm to construct the ECG + VCG model. Through 5-fold cross validation and testing on a third independent dataset, the results show that the ECG + VCG model has better performance in detecting myocardial ischemia.

Adaptive scheduling of acceleration and gyroscope for motion artifact cancelation in photoplethysmography

Hooseok Lee et al.

Summary: This study aims to find an appropriate motion artifact (MA) reference selection approach for MA cancelation in wrist-worn photo-plethysmography (PPG). An adaptive MA reference selection method was proposed and demonstrated to provide higher accuracy in HR estimation compared to other approaches across five state-of-the-art methods. This research highlights the importance of accurate MA references in improving the overall performance of HR estimation algorithms.

A portable multisensor system to assess cardiorespiratory interactions through photoplethysmography

Gabriele Volpes et al.

Summary: The growing interest in health and quality of life, along with advancements in electronics, has led to the development of portable and wearable biomedical devices. The authors designed and implemented a portable system capable of real-time monitoring of physiological parameters, such as ECG, PPG, and airflow breathing signals. The study investigated cardiorespiratory interactions and concluded that the non-invasive and cost-effective PPG technique can be used alone to assess these interactions.

Electrodermal Activity for Measuring Cognitive and Emotional Stress Level

Osmalina Nur Rahma et al.

Summary: Stress can have harmful effects on the body, leading to conditions such as anxiety disorders and depression. Electrodermal activity (EDA) is a noninvasive method widely used to detect stress and emotion. This study developed a stress level classification method using EDA signals that were deconvoluted and analyzed. The classification process showed high accuracy in classifying stress levels using the extracted features and an extreme learning machine (ELM). This system could help individuals monitor their mental health and prevent anxiety and depression caused by untreated stress.
