Desorption of zinc, copper and lead ions from loaded flax fibres

Meriem Kajeiou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the recovery of heavy metals using different solutions for adsorption-desorption cycles. The results showed that nitric and hydrochloric acids resulted in fast desorption of zinc, copper, and lead, while sodium hydroxide had slower desorption rates. Additionally, the study found that zinc and copper were released to a higher extent from fibers previously loaded in lead solution, while lead still remained efficiently adsorbed.

Outside the Safe Operating Space of the Planetary Boundary for Novel Entities

Linn Persson et al.

Summary: This article suggests that the safe operating space of the planetary boundary for novel entities is exceeded due to the increasing production and releases exceeding the global capacity for assessment and monitoring. Plastic pollution is highlighted as a major concern. The article presents an impact pathway from the production of novel entities to their impacts on Earth system processes and proposes several criteria for control variables. Urgent action is recommended to reduce the harm associated with exceeding the boundary by reducing the production and releases of novel entities.

Remediation of pharmaceuticals from contaminated water by molecularly imprinted polymers: a review

Ehsan Nazarzadeh Zare et al.

Summary: The release of pharmaceuticals into the environment has negative effects on human and ecosystem metabolism, requiring advanced remediation methods. Molecularly imprinted polymers are promising adsorbents for removing pharmaceuticals in water, but their efficiency is limited by template leakage and polymer quality. The adsorption performance of multi-templated molecularly imprinted polymers depends on wastewater treatment plant design and pharmaceutical consumption patterns.

Qiang An et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal ability of strain L1 and its immobilized system on PBC for heavy metals and nitrate in mix wastewater. The results showed that the immobilized system had a higher removal efficiency for Ni(II), followed by Cu(II), while the removal efficiency for Cr(VI) was the lowest. SEM, XRD, and FTIR analyses indicated the formation of crystals on the surface of the immobilized system, with various functional groups participating in the removal process. In the Sequential Batch Reactor, the removal efficiency of pollutants by the immobilized system was higher than that of the free strain L1.
