Host-related factors and cancer: Malnutrition and non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Salvatrice Mancuso et al.

Summary: Assessing host-related factors is crucial in the comprehensive management of cancer patients. This review aims to integrate current knowledge on the interaction between malnutrition and lymphoma, as well as addressing pertinent questions. The study found that malnutrition, sarcopenia, cachexia and frailty overlap in lymphoma studies. Additionally, various assessment scales are used to measure malnutrition in lymphoma patients and can impact prognosis. Malnutrition can both arise from and promote lymphomagenesis, negatively affect treatment response and contribute to adverse events.

Differences between anthropometric and bioimpedance measurements of muscle mass in the arm and hand grip and pinch strength in patients with chronic kidney disease

Keruo Jiang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that in chronic kidney disease patients, arm measurements obtained through multifrequency bioimpedance were more accurate in showing gender differences and correlation with arm muscle strength, while anthropometric measurements did not show such correlations.

Validation of nomogram-revised risk index and comparison with other models for extranodal nasal-type NK/T-cell lymphoma in the modern chemotherapy era: indication for prognostication and clinical decision-making

Si-Ye Chen et al.

Summary: The study introduces an easily used nomogram-revised risk index (NRI) for predicting overall survival of patients with extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal-type. The NRI outperformed other prognostic indices in accuracy and had superior outcomes in decision curve analysis, making it a promising tool for clinical trial design and personalized treatment selection.

Prognostic Potential of the Preoperative Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) Score in Predicting Survival of Patients with Cancer: A Systematic Review

Sorayya Kheirouri et al.

Summary: The study found that a high preoperative CONUT score is associated with a poor survival rate in cancer patients, and is an independent prognostic factor. The CONUT score shows a high prognostic competence in predicting OS, CSS, and RFS.
