Medullary Blood Oxygen Level-Dependent MRI Index (R2*) is Associated with Annual Loss of Kidney Function in Moderate CKD

Lu-Ping Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the temporal variability of renal fMRI measurements in individuals with moderate CKD and their association with annual change in eGFR. Results indicated a higher temporal variability in R2* of medulla in CKD patients compared to healthy individuals, which was associated with annual loss in eGFR. These findings highlight the importance of including medulla in the analysis of renal BOLD MRI studies.
