Deforestation impacts on Amazon-Andes hydroclimatic connectivity

Juan Pablo Sierra et al.

Summary: Deforestation in the Amazon has negative impacts on the hydrological and energetic balances in the region, leading to reductions in surface net radiation, evaporation, moisture convergence, and precipitation. Particularly during the austral summer, deforestation increases atmospheric subsidence, weakens the regional Hadley cell, and affects rainfall and atmospheric circulation in the Amazon-Andes transition region.

A New Approach to Homogenize Global Subdaily Radiosonde Temperature Data from 1958 to 2018

Chunlue Zhou et al.

Summary: This study develops an innovative method to homogenize discontinuities in mean and variance in global subdaily radiosonde temperature data. The research reveals numerous significant spurious changes in radiosonde records and suggests that national radiosonde network changes may affect the changepoints.

Recent Changes in the Atmospheric Circulation Patterns during the Dry-to-Wet Transition Season in South Tropical South America (1979-2020): Impacts on Precipitation and Fire Season

Jhan-Carlo Espinoza et al.

Summary: Through analyzing the atmospheric variations over tropical South America, nine atmospheric circulation patterns are identified, showing significant long-term changes and impacts on the regional climate. The patterns help explain the stages of low-level circulation throughout the year and their effects on the South American monsoon onset and dry conditions.
