Self-assembly of TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 microbeads: A green approach to produce magnetic photocatalysts

David F. F. Brossault et al.

Summary: A green approach for producing magnetic photocatalysts via direct agglomeration of commercial nanoparticles in emulsion was successfully demonstrated in this study. The aggregation was attributed to charge screening by salt addition. The experiment resulted in magnetically responsive beads with good adsorption and photodegradation properties, and they could be reused after magnetic separation.

Surface Charge Regulation of MIL-100(Fe) by Anion Exchange for Demulsifying the Cationic Surfactant-Stabilized O/W Emulsion

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a phosphate-mediated anion exchange strategy to fine-tune the surface charge of a metal-organic framework, MIL-100(Fe), for effective demulsification of cationic surfactant-stabilized emulsions. The phosphate-exchanged MIL-100(Fe) exhibited enhanced demulsification efficiency by capturing the surfactant and causing irreversible deformation of emulsion droplets. The research highlighted a promising approach to deal with cationic surfactant-emulsified oily wastewater and revealed the fundamental demulsification process.

Time Evolution and Effect of Dispersant on the Morphology and Viscosity of Water-In-Crude-Oil Emulsions

Diego F. Muriel et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of adding dispersant on the microscopic morphology and bulk viscosity of saltwater-in-crude-oil mechanically mixed emulsions. The research reveals that changes in dispersant concentration significantly affect the aggregation and phase separation of water droplets in the emulsion, subsequently influencing the rheological properties of the emulsion.

Microstructural and rheological investigation of upcycled metal-organic frameworks stabilized Pickering emulsions

Fabrice Lorignon et al.

Summary: This study focused on characterizing the microstructural and rheological properties of Pickering emulsions stabilized solely by Al-based MOFs particles. It was found that MIL-96(Al) efficiently stabilized paraffin-in-water emulsions and the behavior of excess particles in the continuous phase interacting with particles at the interface affected the flow properties of the emulsions. Further investigation into this behavior could be interesting for other MOF-stabilized emulsions.

Enhancing Demulsification Performance for Oil-Water Separation through Encapsulating Ionic Liquids in the Pore of MIL-100(Fe)

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: The encapsulation of ionic liquid cations (Amim(+)) in MIL-100(Fe) micropores enhanced the positive charge density of the framework, significantly improving the demulsification performance for oil-in-water emulsions. The efficiency of Amim@MIL-100(Fe)-3:3 reached 94% within 30 seconds, showcasing a substantial enhancement compared to MIL-100(Fe) within 30 minutes. This performance improvement was attributed to the increased electrostatic attraction facilitated by the presence of Amim(+).
