Low prevalence of ideal cardiovascular health in the general Swedish population: Results from the Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage Study (SCAPIS)

Sara Higueras-Fresnillo et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of ideal cardiovascular health (iCVH) in the middle-aged population of Sweden. Data from a large population-based study were analyzed and a total iCVH score was calculated based on seven components. Results showed that only 18.2% of the population reached ideal status, while 51.9% were classified as intermediate status and 29.9% as poor status of iCVH. Women had a higher prevalence of iCVH status and a lower prevalence of poor iCVH status. These findings can be used as benchmarks for future comparisons and efforts to promote cardiovascular health.

Association of the American Heart Association's new Life's Essential 8 with all-cause and cardiovascular disease-specific mortality: prospective cohort study

Jiahong Sun et al.

Summary: Achieving a higher cardiovascular health (CVH) score according to the new Life's Essential 8 was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-specific mortality. Efforts to promote higher CVH scores could provide significant benefits in reducing mortality burden later in life.

Can dementia risk be reduced by following the American Heart Association?s Life?s Simple 7? A systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis

Jing Wu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the relationships between AHA Cardiovascular Health (CVH) metrics, namely AHA Life's Simple 7, and cognitive outcomes. The results showed that increased CVH score was linearly associated with decreased risk of incident dementia, with varying relationships based on the measurement age of CVH metrics. Late-life dementia risk was significantly reduced by maintaining an ideal level of AHA's CVH guidelines. However, there was no significant association between CVH score and global cognitive decline rate. Further research is needed to explore the link between favorable CVH score and cognitive trajectories in cognitively asymptomatic older populations.

Life's Essential 8: Updating and Enhancing the American Heart Association's Construct of Cardiovascular Health: A Presidential Advisory From the American Heart Association

Donald M. Lloyd-Jones et al.

Summary: In 2010, the American Heart Association introduced a new concept of cardiovascular health, aiming to shift focus from disease treatment to health promotion and preservation. However, subsequent evidence revealed limitations in the original approach, leading the association to convene a writing group to recommend enhancements and updates. This article introduces an enhanced approach to assessing cardiovascular health, called Life's Essential 8, which evaluates an individual's cardiovascular health.

Cardiovascular Disease Projections in the United States Based on the 2020 Census Estimates

Reza Mohebi et al.

Summary: This study aims to project the number of people with cardiovascular risk factors and diseases in the future and uncover disparities based on sex, race, and ethnicity. It is projected that there will be significant increases in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases by 2060, disproportionately affecting racial and ethnic minorities.

Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation estimated risk and prevalent subclinical atherosclerosis in coronary and carotid arteries: A population-based cohort analysis from the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Bioimage Study

Carl J. Ostgren et al.

Summary: The study examined the association between Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation risk estimates and prevalent subclinical atherosclerosis, finding that a doubling of risk estimates was associated with an increased probability of coronary artery calcium score >0 and >1 carotid plaques. This suggests that the Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation risk chart may be useful for estimating the risk of subclinical atherosclerosis in the general population.
