Data-driven generation of 4D velocity profiles in the aneurysmal ascending aorta

Simone Saitta et al.

Summary: This study aims to generate and thoroughly characterize a large dataset of synthetic 4D aortic velocity profiles that have features similar to clinical cohorts of patients with ATAA. By utilizing PCA and statistical shape model, a dataset of 437 synthetic cases with realistic properties was generated. Results showed that the synthetic data presented similar characteristics as the clinical population in terms of key morphological parameters. This study provides a data-driven generative model for computational studies of blood flow.

Alternative management of proximal aortic dissection: concept and application

Xun Yuan et al.

Summary: Open surgery is the main treatment for acute type A aortic dissection, but for elderly patients or those at high surgical risk, endovascular treatment may be an alternative. Challenges in applying endovascular therapy to ascending aorta include anatomical and technical concerns, but there is potential for clinical application.

Haemodynamic Analysis of Branched Endografts for Complex Aortic Arch Repair

Sampad Sengupta et al.

Summary: This study investigated the haemodynamic response induced by the implantation of a double-branched endograft in the aortic arch for thoracic endovascular aortic repair. The simulation results showed that the endograft allowed sufficient blood perfusion to the supra-aortic branches and restored normal flow patterns. The diameter of the tunnel branches played a crucial role in the development of flow downstream and should be carefully selected based on the overall geometry of the vessel.

The influence of inlet velocity profile on predicted flow in type B aortic dissection

Chloe Harriet Armour et al.

Summary: This study found that patient-specific data for inlet velocity profile accurately reproduced global flow patterns, while non-patient-specific flow waveform had markedly different results. In the absence of patient-specific velocity data, efforts should be made to acquire patient's stroke volume and adjust the applied IVP accordingly.

A novel MRI-based data fusion methodology for efficient, personalised, compliant simulations of aortic haemodynamics

Catriona Stokes et al.

Summary: A novel and cost-efficient methodology was presented for simulating aortic haemodynamics in a patient-specific, compliant aorta using an MRI data fusion process. The technique demonstrated accuracy and efficiency, with good agreement between simulation results and MRI data, showcasing the reliability of this MRI-based simulation technique.

Patient-specific simulation of stent-graft deployment in type B aortic dissection: model development and validation

Xiaoxin Kan et al.

Summary: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is the mainstream treatment for type B aortic dissection, but post-TEVAR biomechanical complications remain a major concern. A virtual stent-graft deployment simulation framework was developed to predict biomechanical interactions post-TEVAR. Comparison with follow-up CT scans showed good agreement, indicating the importance of preoperative simulation in predicting post-TEVAR outcomes.

Patient-Specific Virtual Stent-Graft Deployment for Type B Aortic Dissection: A Pilot Study of the Impact of Stent-Graft Length

Xiaoxin Kan et al.

Summary: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a standard treatment for complicated type B aortic dissection. Short stent-graft (SG) length may increase the risk of distal stent-graft-induced new entry (SINE) post-TEVAR. Virtual SG deployment simulations can help predict and reduce stress in the treated aorta, potentially aiding in selecting the most appropriate SG length for individual patients.
