Predicting time-resolved electrophysiological brain networks from structural eigenmodes

Prejaas Tewarie et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of structural eigenmodes in the formation and dissolution of temporally evolving functional brain networks. The results suggest that structural eigenmodes can partly explain the phase and amplitude connectivity at short timescales. The expression of eigenmodes is related to cognitive performance and fluctuations in the community structure of functional networks.

Non-Neural Factors Influencing BOLD Response Magnitudes within Individual Subjects

Jan W. Kurzawski et al.

Summary: In this study, three neuroimaging datasets were reanalyzed, and it was found that there is a significant difference in the magnitude of the BOLD response in different locations of the primary visual cortex (V1). This difference may be related to the thickness, curvature, depth, and vascularization of the cortex. After correction, the difference in BOLD response decreased by half, suggesting that some of the differences may not be caused by neural activity.

Contribution of animal models toward understanding resting state functional connectivity

Patricia Pais-Roldan et al.

Summary: Functional connectivity is a widely studied measure in human neuroimaging research, providing insights into the brain's intrinsic functional organization and potential alterations related to brain dysfunction. However, the mechanisms underlying functional connectivity remain incompletely characterized, hindering interpretation of rs-fMRI studies. Research on laboratory animals plays a crucial role in understanding the neurophysiological processes contributing to functional connectivity.
