Mitochondrial disorders of the OXPHOS system

Erika Fernandez-Vizarra et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial disorders are common inborn errors of metabolism, primarily due to dysfunction of the oxidative phosphorylation system (OXPHOS). Long non-coding RNAs and cancer metastasis: Molecular basis and therapeutic implications

Hui Ming et al.

Summary: Cancer metastasis, driven by the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumor cells, is a major cause of cancer-related deaths. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in regulating cancer metastasis, although their clinical application is still limited. Some lncRNAs are being evaluated as potential biomarkers for cancer staging and assessment of metastatic potential.

Repeated Aconitine Treatment Induced the Remodeling of Mitochondrial Function via AMPK-OPA1-ATP5A1 Pathway

Li-Zhen Qiu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that repeated treatment with low-doses of aconitine can remodel mitochondrial function through the AMPK-OPA1-ATP5A1 pathway, leading to enhanced myocardial contraction in Neonatal Rat Ventricular Myocytes. The upregulation of ATP synthase alpha-subunit (ATP5A1) was found to be crucial in improving mitochondrial function and cellular ATP content in cardiomyocytes. Additionally, inhibiting AMPK with compound C could reverse the effects of aconitine on mitochondrial function, suggesting a potential mechanism for the cardiotonic effect induced by medicinal plants containing aconitine.

Summary: The study demonstrates that celastrol exerts neuroprotective effects in Parkinson's disease by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation through the Nrf2-NLRP3-caspase-1 pathway, leading to the protection of dopamine neurons, alleviation of neuroinflammation, and improvement in motor deficits. These findings highlight the potential of celastrol as a promising therapeutic agent for Parkinson's disease.
