Thyroidectomy without Radioiodine in Patients with Low-Risk Thyroid Cancer

S. Leboulleux et al.

Summary: In patients with low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer undergoing thyroidectomy, a follow-up strategy without the use of radioiodine is noninferior to an ablation strategy with radioiodine in terms of functional, structural, and biologic events at 3 years.

Is Postoperative Adjuvant Radioactive Iodine Ablation Therapy Always Necessary for Intermediate-Risk Papillary Thyroid Cancer Patients With Central Neck Metastasis?

Kyujin Han et al.

Summary: This study found that postoperative RAI therapy is not necessary for intermediate-risk papillary thyroid cancer patients with central LNM, especially for patients with negative ENS and a low number (< 5) of metastatic lymph nodes.

Clinical impact of radioactive iodine dose selection based on the number of metastatic lymph nodes in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma: A multicenter retrospective cohort study

Seong Young Kwon et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether the number of metastatic lymph nodes could be used as a basis in the radioactive iodine dose selection for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Among the patients with PTC, the number of metastatic LNs (>5) was a significant factor in predicting recurrence for all enrolled patients. High-dose RAI (>= 3.7 GBq) therapy significantly lowered the recurrence rate in patients with more than five metastatic LNs.

Summary: The study did not demonstrate the prognostic value of mETE in predicting initial therapy response in PTC patients. However, the combination of tumor diameter and mETE can be used as a reliable prognostic factor for persistence.
