β-catenin links cell seeding density to global gene expression during mouse embryonic stem cell differentiation

Lucy LeBlanc et al.

Summary: Cell density impacts gene expression and differentiation in mouse embryonic stem cells; β-catenin is primarily at adherens junctions at high density but translocates to the nucleus at low density; Esrrb maintains pluripotency gene expression at high density and decreases DNA association at low density.

Notoginsenoside R1 functionalized gelatin hydrogels to promote reparative dentinogenesis

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: Injectable colloidal gels loaded with notoginsenoside R1 were developed to induce reparative dentin formation through a simple UV method. Physicochemical examinations showed appropriate microarchitecture and mechanical properties of the Gel-MA/NGR1 hydrogel. In vivo stimulation demonstrated a significant increase in dentin formation, suggesting the potential of Gel-MA/NGR1 as a pulp-capping material.

Trop2 Forms a Stable Dimer with Significant Structural Differences within the Membrane-Distal Region as Compared to EpCAM

Miha Pavsic

Summary: Trop2 is a cell-surface transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a role in maintaining epithelial tissue integrity and is an important marker for carcinoma. The crystal structure comparison with EpCAM reveals structural differences between the two proteins, highlighting their divergent evolutionary paths and potential for structure-based therapy.

Biological and mechanical evaluation of mineralized-hydrogel scaffolds for tissue engineering applications

Aitor Tejo-Otero et al.

Summary: Chitosan and gelatin are widely used in tissue engineering due to their excellent biocompatibility, but their poor mechanical properties limit their application in bone tissue engineering. By adding calcium minerals to create mineral-hydrogel scaffolds, both mechanical and biological properties can be improved. Increasing the amount of minerals and the proportion of CaCO3 can enhance mechanical properties, while also promoting cell proliferation and mineralization.

The effect of carbon nanotubes on osteogenic functions of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in vitro and bone formation in vivo compared with that of nano-hydroxyapatite and the possible mechanism

Zhipo Du et al.

Summary: The study found that multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MCNTs) were more effective in activating specific signaling pathways than nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) and could better promote osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HASCs). In in vivo experiments, MCNTs were also found to induce ectopic bone formation better than nHA.

In vitro Three-Dimensional Sprouting Assay of Angiogenesis using Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells for Vascular Disease Modeling and Drug Testing

Georgios Galaris et al.

Summary: Recent advances in induced pluripotent stem cells and gene editing technologies have allowed the development of novel human cell-based disease models for phenotypic drug discovery. While these models can predict drug safety and efficacy in humans more accurately, the need for in vitro mouse models for direct drug efficacy and safety comparisons remains crucial.

Osteogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells via Curcumin-Containing Nanoscaffolds

Khadijeh Khezri et al.

Summary: This review highlights the cellular and molecular mechanisms connected with the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the presence of nanocurcumin, discussing the role of inhibitory or stimulant signal transduction pathways. Furthermore, the effects of different concentrations and structural modifications of curcumin on the differentiation of MSCs have been addressed.

The Use of Infrapatellar Fat Pad-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Articular Cartilage Regeneration: A Review

Parviz Vahedi et al.

Summary: Cartilage damage is often difficult to repair, and current treatment strategies are inadequate. Autologous mesenchymal stem cells are considered a promising therapeutic approach for cartilage regeneration, as they possess robust cartilaginous production capacity and are easy to isolate and expand without causing morbidity.
