Phosphorus-modified cobalt single-atom catalysts loaded on crosslinked carbon nanosheets for efficient alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction

Yucong Huang et al.

Summary: Efficient and low-cost transition metal single-atom catalysts (TMSACs) have gained significant attention for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to their good catalytic activity without noble metals. However, the complex preparation process and insufficient stability have limited their practical applications. In this study, a simple top-down pyrolysis approach was introduced to obtain P-modified Co SACs loaded on the crosslinked defect-rich carbon nanosheets, which exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability for alkaline HER.

High activity and stability in Ni2P/(Co,Ni)OOH heterointerface with a multiple-hierarchy structure for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction

LiLi Zhang et al.

Summary: By using a facile two-step method, a Ni2P/(Co,Ni)OOH heterointerface with a three-level hierarchy morphology is prepared. The multiple levels of hierarchy structures provide a large area for active sites loading and facilitate substance transportation, contributing to enhanced HER activity. The strong charge transfer at the heterointerface eliminates spin asymmetry and achieves the thermos-neutral adsorption of active H species, further improving the catalytic performance. Density functional theory (DFT) and in-situ Raman measurements confirm the presence of sufficient Ni atoms as active sites. The Ni2P/(Co,Ni)OOH exhibits much better HER activity compared to separate Ni2P or (Co,Ni)OOH, achieving a high current density at a relatively low overpotential and a small Tafel slope in alkaline electrolyte. This work provides inspiration for optimizing HER activity using multiple-level hierarchy structures.

Surface Activation and Ni-S Stabilization in NiO/NiS2 for Efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Nan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, NiO/NiS2 and Fe-NiO/NiS2 catalyst models were constructed to investigate the effect of Fe doping. Fe-NiO/NiS2 exhibited a low overpotential, attributed to the accumulation of hydroxyl groups on the surface of materials after Fe doping, promoting the formation of highly active NiOOH. Furthermore, Fe bonded with S in the bulk was found to alleviate the oxidation corrosion of Ni-S bonds, providing long-term durability to Fe-NiO/NiS2.

Self-supported iron-doped nickel sulfide as efficient catalyst for electrochemical urea and hydrazine oxidation reactions

Jitendra Shashikant Samdani et al.

Summary: The electrochemical oxidation of urea and hydrazine over self-supported Fe-doped Ni3S2/NF nanostructured material is investigated. The Fe-Ni3S2/NF-2 prepared at specific conditions shows promising results in the oxidation reactions of hydrazine and urea. The improvement in the chemical kinetics of urea and hydrazine oxidation is attributed to the synergistic effect of adsorption and fast electron transfer on Fe-Ni3S2/NF-2. This study has implications for hydrogen energy applications.
