Anisotropic correlations in higher manganese silicides

Nagendra S. Chauhan et al.

Summary: In this study, the implications of anisotropy on the thermoelectric performance of HMS are investigated. It was found that single crystal specimens exhibited high electrical and thermal conductivity along the c-axis direction, while the maximum Seebeck coefficient was measured along the perpendicular direction. Polycrystalline specimens showed weakened anisotropy with enhanced weighted mobility and reduced thermal conductivity, resulting in a higher thermoelectric figure-of-merit. This study provides new insights into the structure-property relationships and emphasizes the importance of considering anisotropic behavior in HMS crystals.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of the crystalline state on the thermal and electrical transport properties of a partially substituted manganese silicide alloy. The results demonstrate the efficacy of using rapidly solidified nanocrystalline polycrystals and secondary phases to enhance phonon scattering, as well as the effective carrier concentration and electrical conductivity improvement achieved through aliovalent aluminum substitution.

High temperature oxidation of higher manganese silicides

Antoine de Padoue Shyikira et al.

Summary: The oxidation kinetics and mechanisms of higher manganese silicides were studied, revealing that spark plasma sintering is a better densification method than hot pressing. Doping with 0.5at% Ge resulted in the lowest oxidation rate, attributed to the stable formation of a SiO2 protective layer.

High-temperature oxidation resistance and thermal stability of higher manganese silicide powder synthesized by pack cementation

Aikaterini Teknetzi et al.

Summary: This study presents a detailed investigation on the oxidation process and high-temperature oxidation resistance of HMS powder synthesized by pack cementation, demonstrating excellent oxidation resistance up to at least 823K. The cyclic procedures show a trend towards reaching a stable state during the oxidation reaction, emphasizing the promising potential for high-temperature thermoelectric applications.

Porous bismuth antimony telluride alloys with excellent thermoelectric and mechanical properties

Peng Zhao et al.

Summary: Porous BiSbTe alloys with a porosity of ca. 0.15 were successfully prepared through sequential high-pressure synthesis, ball milling, and spark plasma sintering. These porous samples exhibit greatly enhanced thermoelectric and mechanical properties, with the optimal Bi0.42Sb1.58Te3 showing a maximum ZT of 1.27 and excellent mechanical strengths. The unique microstructure with closely bonded equiaxed grains and uniformly distributed pores promotes the development of porous thermoelectric materials.
