Taxonomic Reappraisal of Periconiaceae with the Description of Three New Periconia Species from China

Er-Fu Yang et al.

Summary: This article describes several saprobic ascomycetes belonging to the Periconia species that were collected in Yunnan, China. The researchers conducted a morphological analysis and obtained DNA sequence data to investigate their phylogenetic relationships. They introduced three new Periconia species and reported new host and geographical records of two other species. The study also discussed the relationship between Periconia celtidis and P. byssoides, as well as the synonymization of Bambusistroma under Periconia. The researchers provided detailed descriptions, illustrations, and an updated phylogenetic tree of Periconiaceae.

Diversity and spatial distribution of endophytic fungi in Cinnamomum longepaniculatum of Yibin, China

Wanhai Zhou et al.

Summary: Analysis of fungal taxa in different tissue samples of Cinnamomum longepaniculatum revealed that the seed community exhibited the greatest richness and diversity, followed by branches, leaves, and roots. Various unclassified fungal groups were identified in all tissues, suggesting a potentially unexplored reservoir of biological resources in the native C. longepaniculatum of Yibin.

Analysis of the Fungal Diversity and Community Structure in Sichuan Dark Tea During Pile-Fermentation

Kuan Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of fungi during pile-fermentation in the development of the aroma and physical characteristics of Sichuan dark tea. High-throughput sequencing revealed a wide variety of fungi present during fermentation, with different stages showing fluctuations in fungal diversity. The critical importance of the W4 stage for fungal growth, diversity, and community structure in Sichuan dark tea was demonstrated through cluster analysis.

The Chemistry and Pharmacology of Fungal Genus Periconia: A Review

Azmi Azhari et al.

Summary: This study analyzed different species of Periconia containing natural products with potential pharmacological effects, such as antimicrobial, anti-HIV, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic agents. It also provided information on taxol and piperine from Periconia producing species. The research supports the discovery of new drugs produced by Periconia species and compares them for future drug development.
