Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging of arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy: evolving diagnostic perspectives

Alberto Cipriani et al.

Summary: Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) is a genetically determined heart muscle disease characterized by fibro-fatty myocardial replacement, clinically associated with malignant ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has emerged as the key imaging technique for the diagnosis of ACM, providing detailed evaluation of both right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular (LV) morphology, function, and tissue characteristics, as well as supplemental value for disease variants.

Cardiac geometry, function and mechanics in left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy with preserved ejection fraction

Sarah A. Guigui et al.

Summary: The study focused on evaluating cardiac geometry and mechanics in LVNC patients with preserved EF. Results showed that patients with LVNC had abnormal LV geometry and longitudinal mechanics, as well as increased myocardial stiffness compared to controls. Global longitudinal strain was significantly decreased in LVNC patients while peak twist values were comparable between the two cohorts.

Ventricular non-compaction review

Summary: LVNC is a rare and unclassified cardiomyopathy that can lead to heart failure, arrhythmias, and embolic events in adults. Diagnosis is based on various imaging criteria, but there is no standardized diagnostic criteria. Previous studies have shown that LVNC may present in different forms, requiring individualized treatment strategies.

A clinical score for predicting left ventricular reverse remodelling in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy

Yuki Kimura et al.

Summary: LVRR is considered a good prognosis predictor in DCM patients. This study identified five clinical predictors, including hypertension, no family history of DCM, symptom duration <90 days, LVEF <35%, and QRS duration <116 ms, as independent predictors of LVRR. A scoring system based on these predictors can effectively stratify the likelihood of LVRR occurrence in DCM patients, serving as a useful clinical tool applicable in any medical institution.

Summary: The study found that RV global longitudinal strain and 3D RVEF are important predictors of adverse outcomes in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy. RVEF was identified as the only independent predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events in this patient population.
