MALAT1 Promotes Tumorigenesis and Increases Cellular Sensitivity to Herceptin in HER2-positive Breast Cancer

Chuansheng Yang et al.

Summary: This study revealed that MALAT1 is up-regulated in HER2-positive breast cancer and silencing MALAT1 could inhibit cell proliferation. Knockdown of MALAT1 affects the expression of specific genes, indicating MALAT1 might be a potential therapeutic target for HER2-positive breast cancer.

tRNA-like leader-trailer interaction promotes 3′-end maturation of MALAT1

Seyed-Fakhreddin Torabi et al.

Summary: MALAT1 is a nuclear long noncoding RNA that is highly overexpressed in many cancer tissues and plays important roles in tumor progression and metastasis. Mature MALAT1 is generated by processing of mascRNA and stabilization is crucial for its oncogenic activity. Efficient 3'-end maturation of MALAT1 depends on interaction between the A-rich tract and the mascRNA 3' trailer.

MALATI Regulated mTOR-Mediated Tau Hyperphosphorylation by Acting as a ceRNA of miR144 in Hippocampus Cells Exposed to High Glucose

Chong Lu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that MALAT1 plays a crucial role in HG-induced neuronal cell injury by regulating mTOR signaling pathway to inhibit tau protein phosphorylation. MiR-144 exerts a negative regulatory effect in this process, controlling the signal transduction between MALAT1 and mTOR.

Combined Impacts of Genetic Variants of Long Non-Coding RNA MALAT1 and the Environmental Carcinogen on the Susceptibility to and Progression of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Yi-Fang Ding et al.

Summary: The study found that the rs3200401 T allele of the MALAT1 gene reduces the risk of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and increases the risk of moderately/poorly differentiated OSCC. In individuals exposed to carcinogens, those carrying the rs3200401 T allele were more likely to develop high-grade OSCC. The rs619586 AG/GG genotype was also associated with increased risks of developing advanced stages and larger tumor sizes.
