Quasi-static compressive behavior of bioactive glass reinforced high density polyethylene composites

Praveen Jeyachandran et al.

Summary: This study investigates the compressive behavior of additively manufactured bioactive glass reinforced high density polyethylene composites under quasi static conditions. Results show that elastic modulus and yield strength increase with filler addition and strain rate, while energy absorption is proportional to strain rate and BAG content.

MEX 3D Printed HDPE/TiO2 Nanocomposites Physical and Mechanical Properties Investigation

Nectarios Vidakis et al.

Summary: This research aims to develop more robust and mechanically advanced Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) materials by incorporating Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) filler into High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) matrix. The results indicate that the filler can significantly improve the mechanical strength of HDPE at certain concentrations.

Compressive behavior of 3D printed MWCNT/HDPE nanocomposites

Sumodh Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the compressive behavior of three-dimensional printed functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes/high-density polyethylene nanocomposite samples. The research finds that the compressive performance of the printed materials improves with increasing loading of functionalized carbon nanotubes, but the energy absorption capacity decreases.

The Impact of Zinc Oxide Micro-Powder Filler on the Physical and Mechanical Response of High-Density Polyethylene Composites in Material Extrusion 3D Printing

Nectarios Vidakis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop novel polymer composites using melt extrusion and 3D printing, incorporating zinc oxide particles in various weight percentages. The mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated and it was found that the filler increased the strength of pure HDPE, with a maximum increase of 54.6% in flexural strength and 53.8% in tensile strength. Scanning Electron Microscopy, Raman, and thermal characterization techniques were used to analyze the samples, and the experimental findings were applicable in other research areas.

Wear performance and mechanical properties of MWCNT/HDPE nanocomposites for gearing applications

Sameh Dabees et al.

Summary: The study prepared potential gear materials with enhanced hardness, tensile properties, and wear resistance using nanocomposites. Nanofillers improved the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the composites within a certain concentration range, but could lead to increased brittleness at higher concentrations.

Dynamic behavior of concurrently printed functionally graded closed cell foams

Bonthu Dileep et al.

Summary: Functionally graded closed cell foams reinforced with hollow glass microballoons were 3D printed and evaluated for mechanical buckling and free vibration response. FGF-2 showed higher buckling strength and better natural frequency performance compared to other FGFs. Experimental results were validated with finite element simulation results.

Wave propagation analysis of a ceramic-metal functionally graded sandwich plate with different porosity distributions in a hygro-thermal environment

Saeed Tahir et al.

Summary: This paper presents the wave propagation analysis of porous functionally graded sandwich plates in a hygro-thermal environment using a simple four-unknown integral higher-order shear deformation theory. It investigates the effects of moisture and temperature on wave propagation by considering their role on materials' expansion, and discusses the impact of various factors through numerical results. The findings can serve as a benchmark for further studies on wave propagation in functionally graded plates.
