Irregular Liouville Correlators and Connection Formulae for Heun Functions

Giulio Bonelli et al.

Summary: We conducted a detailed study of irregular correlators in Liouville Conformal Field Theory, the related Virasoro conformal blocks with irregular singularities, and their connection formulas. By considering their semi-classical limit, we obtained explicit expressions of the connection matrices for the Heun function and a class of its confluences. The calculations were simplified using concrete combinatorial formulas from conformal block expansions.

Black Hole Quasinormal Modes and Seiberg-Witten Theory

Gleb Aminov et al.

Summary: New analytic results on black hole perturbation theory are presented, based on a novel relation to four-dimensional N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theories. Exact versions of Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization conditions on quasinormal mode frequencies and exact expressions of eigenvalues of spin-weighted spheroidal harmonics are proposed. The conjecture is tested by comparing against known numerical results for Kerr black holes and Schwarzschild black holes, with some extensions also discussed.

QNMs of branes, BHs and fuzzballs from quantum SW geometries

Massimo Bianchi et al.

Summary: Quantum Normal Modes (QNMs) govern the linear response to perturbations of black holes, D-branes, and fuzzballs, as well as the gravitational wave signals in the ring-down phase of binary mergers. There is a remarkable connection between QNMs of neutral black holes in 4 dimensions and quantum Seiberg-Witten geometries describing the dynamics of N=2 Super Yang-Mills (SYM) theories. By extending the gauge/gravity dictionary, a wide range of gravity backgrounds related to N=2 SYM with a single SU(2) gauge group and fundamental matter are explored, including charged and rotating black holes, D3-branes, D1D5 'circular' fuzzballs, and smooth horizonless geometries. All examples share the common feature of photon-spheres associated with degenerations of classical elliptic Seiberg-Witten geometries, where a cycle pinches to zero size. Quantum effects resolve the singular geometry and result in a spectrum of quantized energies labeled by the overtone number n.

More on the SW-QNM correspondence

Massimo Bianchi et al.

Summary: We compute the spectrum of quasi-normal modes of asymptotically flat Kerr Newman black holes using the correspondence between gravitational perturbations and quantum Seiberg-Witten curves. We establish detailed gauge/gravity dictionaries for a large class of black holes, D-branes, and fuzzballs in diverse dimensions. The QNM frequencies obtained from the quantum periods of SU(2) N = 2 SYM are compared against numerical results, WKB approximation, and geodetic motion, showing remarkable agreement.

Exact WKB methods in SU(2) Nf=1

Alba Grassi et al.

Summary: We study in detail the Schrodinger equation corresponding to the four dimensional SU(2) N = 2 SQCD theory with one flavour. We calculate the Voros symbols, or quantum periods, in four different ways and find good agreement. We also study the exact quantization condition for the spectrum and explore the relationship between singularities of the Borel transformed WKB series and BPS states.

Gravitational orbits, double-twist mirage, and many-body scars

Matthew Dodelson et al.

Summary: In this paper, we explore the implications of stable gravitational orbits around an AdS black hole for the boundary conformal field theory. The orbits are long-lived states that eventually decay due to gravitational radiation and tunneling. They appear as narrow resonances in the heavy-light OPE and as quasi-normal modes in the thermal two-point function. The connection between orbits, quasi-normal modes, and double-twist operators is investigated in detail, and the anomalous dimension of double-twist operators is computed.

CFT description of BH's and ECO's: QNMs, superradiance, echoes and tidal responses

Dario Consoli et al.

Summary: Using conformal field theory and localization techniques, this study investigates the propagation of scalar waves in gravity backgrounds described by Schrodinger-like equations with Fuchsian singularities. The exact formulas for the connection matrices, which relate the asymptotic behavior of wave functions near the singularities, are obtained in terms of the braiding and fusion rules of the CFT. The results are then applied to analyze quasi-normal modes, absorption cross sections, amplification factors, echoes, and tidal responses of black holes and exotic compact objects in four and five dimensions. In addition, a definition of dynamical Love numbers in gravity is proposed.

CFT correlators, W-algebras and generalized Catalan numbers

Robin Karlsson et al.

Summary: This research investigates the role of Catalan numbers in the Virasoro heavy-heavy-light-light (HHLL) vacuum blocks and HHLL W-N vacuum blocks in two spacetime dimensions. It reveals that these numbers play a crucial role in the generating function equation and the correlation of stress tensor in the latter case.

Thermal stress tensor correlators, OPE and holography

Robin Karlsson et al.

Summary: This article studies the OPE expansion of the two-point functions of the stress tensor and double-stress tensors, which are important light degrees of freedom in strongly coupled conformal field theories with a large central charge, in thermal and heavy states. The results are compared to the holographic finite temperature two-point functions to extract conformal data beyond the leading order in the large central charge expansion. Specifically, corrections to the OPE coefficients determining the near-lightcone behavior of the correlators are computed, as well as the anomalous dimensions of the double-stress tensor operators.

Exact solution of Kerr black hole perturbations via CFT2 and instanton counting: Greybody factor, quasinormal modes, and Love numbers

Giulio Bonelli et al.

Summary: In this paper, we obtain explicit expressions for the finite frequency greybody factor, quasinormal modes, and Love numbers of Kerr black holes by calculating the exact connection coefficients of the radial and angular parts of the Teukolsky equation. The obtained results are consistent with existing literature in the relevant approximation limits. The method used in this study can be extended to solve the linearized Einstein equation in other interesting gravitational backgrounds.

ISCOs in AdS/CFT

David Berenstein et al.

Summary: We studied stable circular orbits in spherically symmetric AdS black holes in various dimensions and provided analytic expressions for their size, angular velocity, and angular momentum in a large black hole mass regime. The dual interpretation is related to meta-stable states that do not thermalize at typical thermal scales, due to non-perturbative effects on spatial curvature. The placement of particles on these orbits is explained through tunneling inside, computed from complex geodesics in the black hole background and the WKB approximation of the wave equation.

Summary: This study focuses on the eikonal phase associated with gravitational scattering in AdS spacetime between a highly energetic light particle and a heavy object. By using the WKB approximation and considering all orders in the impact parameter to the Schwarzschild radius ratio, the eikonal phase is computed. The research also explores the double scaling limit where both momentum and the AdS black hole become very large simultaneously.

Holographic correlators at finite temperature

Luis F. Alday et al.

Summary: In this paper, weakly-coupled QFT in AdS at finite temperature is considered, and the holographic thermal two-point function of scalar operators in the boundary theory is computed. Analytic expressions for leading corrections due to local quartic interactions in the bulk are presented, with an arbitrary number of derivatives and for any number of spacetime dimensions. The solutions are fixed by judiciously picking an ansatz and imposing consistency conditions, and a simple dispersion relation for thermal two-point functions is derived, reconstructing the function from its discontinuity.

Diving into a holographic superconductor

Sean A. Hartnoll et al.

Summary: Charged black holes in anti-de Sitter space become unstable to forming charged scalar hair at low temperatures below a critical temperature. This instability is a holographic realization of superconductivity. Within these holographic superconductors, complex dynamical behaviors are observed, including strong Josephson oscillations and potential 'Kasner inversions'. Due to Josephson oscillations, the number of Kasner inversions is highly temperature-sensitive and diverges at a discrete set of temperatures that accumulate at the critical temperature, resulting in fractal-like behavior of the final Kasner exponent near these temperatures.
