Effects of absorber near-interface compensation on Cd(Se,Te) solar cell performance

Brian Good et al.

Summary: Arsenic doping in CdTe is challenging due to self-compensation, which affects device performance. This study uses modeling to analyze the impact of arsenic accumulation, finding that shallow donors improve open-circuit voltage, while deep recombination centers are detrimental to device performance. The presence of a thin charge layer replicates observed behavior in actual devices. Monitoring dopant accumulation within 100 nm of the interface is crucial, and reducing or eliminating arsenic concentration in this region is suggested for performance improvement.
