Genetic screening of MMP1 as a potential pathogenic gene in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Erkang Yi et al.

Summary: This study aims to identify and validate the key genes driving the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) through bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation. Results revealed a series of potential pathogenic genes of COPD, among which MMP1 was the most likely gene responsible for the progression of COPD. MMP1 is significantly related to inflammatory effects and cilia function in human bronchial epithelial cells.

Echinatin effectively protects against NLRP3 inflammasome driven diseases by targeting HSP90

Guang Xu et al.

Summary: This study identified echinatin, a component of traditional herbal medicine licorice, as a potentially novel inhibitor of NLRP3 inflammasome activation in both in vitro and in vivo models. Echinatin was shown to exert inhibitory effects through its interaction with heat-shock protein 90 (HSP90), disrupting the formation of the HSP90-NLRP3 complex. The administration of echinatin demonstrated significant suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome activation and amelioration of inflammatory conditions in mouse models, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic approach for NLRP3-driven diseases.

Long noncoding RNA IL6-AS1 is highly expressed in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is associated with interleukin 6 by targeting miR-149-5p and early B-cell factor 1

Erkang Yi et al.

Summary: IL6-AS1 is upregulated in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and promotes inflammation by enhancing the expression of inflammatory factors. It acts as an endogenous sponge in the cytoplasm to stabilize IL-6 mRNA, and in the nucleus, it recruits early B-cell factor 1 to promote IL-6 transcription.

Protective Role of Genetic Variants in HSP90 Genes-Complex in COPD Secondary to Biomass-Burning Smoke Exposure and Non-Severe COPD Forms in Tobacco Smoking Subjects

Enrique Ambrocio-Ortiz et al.

Summary: The study identified an association between single-nucleotide variants in the HSP90AB1 and HSP90B1 genes and a decreased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly among subjects exposed to biomass-burning smoke and smokers.
