Ba5Ga2SiO4S6: a Phase-Matching Nonlinear Optical Oxychalcogenide Design via Structural Regulation Originated from Heteroanion Introduction

In this study, a one-for-multiple substitution strategy was applied to diamond-like zinc-blende ZnS, leading to the successful synthesis of three new polar ternary crystals AGa(5)S(8) (A = K, Rb, Cs). Comprehensive review on multiple mixed-anion ligands, physicochemical performances and application prospects in metal oxysulfides

Summary: Oxysulfides are important mixed-anion inorganic functional systems that combine the advantages of oxides and sulfides. They have shown extensive applications with their unique physicochemical properties. However, there is currently no systematic review on the interaction between mixed-anion ligands and physicochemical performances in metal oxysulfides. This study investigates the recent developments and comprehensive recognition of 288 known metal oxysulfides and summarizes the intrinsic relationship between structural diversity, flexible performance, and extensive application. The results provide valuable guidance for the future prediction and design of new oxysulfides with controllable structures and performances.

Optimizing the Nonlinear Optical Performance of an A-N-M-Q (A: Alkali Metal; N: d10 Metal; M: Main Group Metal; Q: Chalcogen) System

Summary: Exploring new infrared nonlinear optical (IR NLO) materials with superior overall properties is of scientific and technical importance. However, achieving large second-order harmonic generation (SHG) efficiencies and high laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDT) simultaneously poses a challenge. This study demonstrates a strategy to optimize the IR NLO performance by modulating the A/(M + N) and M/N ratios. Three new sulfides with different A/(Ga + Cd) and Ga/Cd ratios were obtained, and compound 3 showed the highest SHG efficiency (0.5 xAgGaS2) and LIDT (35 x AgGaS2). Compound 3 represents the first phase-matchable IR NLO material in the A-N-IIB-M-IIIA-Q family.

Heteroanionic Melilite Oxysulfide: A Promising Infrared Nonlinear Optical Candidate with a Strong Second-Harmonic Generation Response, Sufficient Birefringence, and Wide Bandgap

Summary: This study confirmed that the heteroanionic oxysulfide tetrahedron can achieve balanced performance in infrared nonlinear optical crystals, including strong second-harmonic generation (SHG) response, proper birefringence, and wide band gap. The anion-mixing strategy was applied to discover melilite oxysulfide as a promising IR-NLO material system. These compounds exhibited unbiased performances of proper birefringences, strong SHG responses with phase-matchable ability, wide band gaps, and large laser-induced damage thresholds. The structure tolerance of melilite offers the possibility to improve the SHG response by tuning the orbital composition and hybridization near band edges.

Local Polarity-Induced Assembly of Second-Order Nonlinear Optical Materials

Mechanism explorations revealed that the synergistic effect of distorted tetrahedral building units was responsible for the excellent properties. LaBS3 revisited: a promising mid-infrared nonlinear optical material

Summary: Researchers report a new synthetic route to prepare LaBS3, a crystal with excellent mid-infrared nonlinear optical properties. The experimental results show that LaBS3 exhibits a large second-harmonic generation effect, high laser induced-damage threshold, wide band gap, wide infrared transmission range, and high thermal stability. Broad transparency and wide band gap achieved in a magnetic infrared nonlinear optical chalcogenide by suppressing d-d transitions

Summary: The discovery of two new chain tellurides with detailed crystal structures is reported, and first-principles calculations show that one of the materials has the potential to be used as an IR birefringent material. These findings may guide the exploration of new IR birefringent crystals.

A novel promising infrared nonlinear optical selenide KAg3Ga8Se14 designed from benchmark AgGaQ2 (Q = S, Se)

Summary: This study successfully synthesized a new type of NLO material KAg3Ga8Se14, which exhibits moderate phase-matchable NLO response and a good laser damage threshold. The structure of this material is composed of alternating layers of AgGaSe2 and Ga2Se3-like slabs, and DFT calculations indicate that the AgSe4 and GaSe4 tetrahedral motifs are significant contributors to the NLO performance.
