An encapsulating lithium-polysulfide electrolyte for lithium-sulfur batteries

Li-Peng Hou et al.

Summary: This study proposes an encapsulating LiPS electrolyte (EPSE) to suppress parasitic reactions between lithium metal anodes and soluble LiPS based on a nano-heterogeneous solvation structure design. The addition of reduction-stable DIPS in the outer solvent shell significantly inhibits the parasitic reactions between encapsulated LiPS and lithium metal. Experimental results show that a lithium-sulfur battery with EPSE can undergo 103 cycles under demanding conditions.

Porous Dithiine-Linked Covalent Organic Framework as a Dynamic Platform for Covalent Polysulfide Anchoring in Lithium-Sulfur Battery Cathodes

Sattwick Haldar et al.

Summary: A novel sulfur-based two-dimensional covalent organic framework (COF) with a porous structure and good crystallinity has been successfully synthesized. The framework exhibits a small band gap and high electron activity, making it a promising candidate for designing cathode materials for lithium-sulfur batteries to minimize energy losses during charge-discharge cycles.

Sputtered MoN nanolayer as a multifunctional polysulfide catalyst for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries

Xin-Yang Yue et al.

Summary: In this study, MoN nanolayer-decorated multilayer graphene was used as a layer material to suppress the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides and enhance the redox kinetics in Li-S batteries. After the initial discharge process, the MoN layers break up into independent microreaction units consisting of MoN bodies and MoS2 edges, forming an in situ heterogeneous composite catalyst. The MoN bodies can trap LiPSs and enhance their redox kinetics, while the MoS2 edges weaken the mobility of LiPSs through the anchoring effect. Li-S cells using this interlayer exhibit excellent cycling stability under a high sulfur loading.

Expediting the Conversion of Li2S2 to Li2S Enables High-Performance Li-S Batteries

Zhanshuang Jin et al.

Summary: The conversion of Li2S2 to Li2S is a crucial step in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, and the catalysts in these batteries are often ineffective due to poor contact with solid Li2S2. By designing pomegranate-like sulfur nanoclusters@nitrogen-doped carbon@nitrogen-doped carbon nanospheres (S@N-C@N-C NSs), the rapid conversion of ultrafine Li2S2 to Li2S can be achieved. The cathodes with this nanostructure exhibit excellent sulfur utilization, high rate performance, and low capacity decay rate, showing potential for energy storage applications.
