N, S co-doped carbon quantum dots anchoring on copper-vacancy-rich Cu nanowires/Cu foam as the cathode in microbial fuel cells: Role of C-S-Cu active site

Danquan Lan et al.

Summary: In this study, N, S co-doped carbon quantum dots derived from orange peels were anchored on copper-vacancy-rich copper nanowires/copper foam to catalyze the ORR in MFCs. The interaction between the N, S-CQDs and copper-vacancy-rich copper nanowires/copper foam was found to be crucial for promoting electron transfer and creating active sites for ORR. The N, S-CQDs/Cu2O-Cu NWs demonstrated higher power density and superior stability compared to Pt/C, suggesting a potential alternative for efficient ORR electrocatalysts in microbial fuel cells.

Molecular dynamic study for concentration-dependent volume relaxation of vacancy

Zhen Cui et al.

Summary: This study uses large-scale molecular dynamics simulations to investigate concentration-dependent vacancy volume relaxation in Al, Cu, and Au, finding that the vacancy volume relaxation factor remains constant at low to mid-concentration levels and collapses at high concentrations, leading to the formation of massive dislocations. The results are consistent with existing data and an empirical equation is developed to describe the relationship between vacancy volume relaxation factor and vacancy concentration. Additionally, hydrostatic stress calculations are performed and the relationship between vacancy volume relaxation and diffusion-induced strain, particularly in the context of electromigration, is discussed.
