A simultaneous assessment of multiple ecosystem services and disservices in vineyards and orchards on Terceira Island, Azores

Marco Ferrante et al.

Summary: Monitoring ecosystem processes resulting in ecosystem services and disservices is crucial in agricultural ecosystems. This study quantified the intensity of ecological processes leading to various services and disservices in vineyards and citrus orchards. The results show differences in herbivory rates, predation rates, pollination efficiency, and decomposition rates, and suggest that landscape complexity does not always support ecosystem services, and certain agro-ecosystem characteristics may also favor disservices.

The Fruit Fly Protect project and its actions regarding the evaluation of different traps and attractants for Ceratitis capitata Wied. in Azores

D. H. Lopes et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of different food attractants and Tephri traps baited with Econex Trypack for monitoring Mediterranean fruit flies on Azorean archipelago. The results showed statistical differences in Tephri Trap for Sao Miguel Island in 2020. Cera Trap performed well in capturing the pests at high population densities, serving as a good control tool, while Tephri Trap with Trypack showed effectiveness at low C. capitata densities.

Do floral resources affect fitness of adult Cydia pomonella (Linnaeus 1758) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)?

Silvia Matray et al.

Summary: The introduction of flowering plants into orchards can increase functional biodiversity in pome fruit cultivation. However, the impact of floral diets on the longevity of adult codling moth was examined under laboratory conditions and found that different plants provided different effects on the moth's lifespan, but did not significantly affect fecundity.
