Novel slow-fast behaviour in an oscillator driven by a frequency-switching force

Carles Bonet et al.

Summary: When an oscillator abruptly switches between frequencies, there is ambiguity in how the system should be modeled. Two natural models of a switch in a periodically-forced harmonic oscillator are described, but they disagree in predicting its long-term behavior. Attempts to resolve the disagreement through regularization not only preserve it but also show that it increases with time. One model corresponds to a conventional 'Filippov' description of a nonsmooth system, while the second exhibits irreversible aging and novel multi-scale behaviors.

Bifurcation analysis of the predator-prey model with the Allee effect in the predator

Deeptajyoti Sen et al.

Summary: The use of predator-prey models in ecological research has a long history. In this study, we explore a predator-prey model with an ecologically important case of the Allee effect in the predator population. We analyze the local and global bifurcation structures of the model and investigate the impact of different parameterizations of the Allee effect on the system dynamics. The inclusion of the Allee effect in the predator population generally destabilizes the coexistence equilibrium and can lead to extinction of the predator population with enrichment of the environment.

Initial-Condition Effects on a Two-Memristor-Based Jerk System

Han Bao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the complex dynamical effects induced by memristor and non-memristor initial conditions in a memristor-based jerk system. The numerical and experimental results validate that the dynamical behaviors of the system are dependent on both the coupling coefficients and the initial conditions.

Turing-Hopf bifurcation co-induced by cross-diffusion and delay in Schnakenberg system

Rui Yang

Summary: The dynamics of the Schnakenberg model under the influence of gene expression time delay and cross-diffusion is investigated. The presence of cross-diffusion leads to an enlarged Turing instability region compared to self-diffusion, and the variation of time delay can destabilize the positive equilibrium or result in Turing instability through Turing-Hopf bifurcation. A bifurcation analysis is conducted to determine the stable regime, Turing instability regime, and the condition for delay-induced Turing-Hopf bifurcation in the Schnakenberg model. The spatiotemporal dynamics near the bifurcation point are classified into six categories, and numerical simulations confirm the theoretical predictions.

Computation of the normal form as well as the unfolding of the vector field with zero-zero-Hopf bifurcation at the origin

Miao Xue et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the normal form of a vector field with a codimension-3 zero-zero-Hopf bifurcation at the origin and develops a unified program to compute the coefficients of the normal form. By utilizing central manifold theory and normal form theory, expressions of all coefficients related to local bifurcations are provided. These expressions can be computed using a software program based on the symbolic language Maple.

Slow-Fast Behaviors and Their Mechanism in a Periodically Excited Dynamical System with Double Hopf Bifurcations

Miaorong Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the influence of two scales in the frequency domain on the behaviors of a typical dynamical system with a double Hopf bifurcation. An external periodic excitation is introduced to establish a theoretical model, and it is found that with the increase of the exciting amplitude, different types of bifurcations may be involved in the system, leading to several qualitatively different forms of bursting attractors.
