Numerical solutions of stochastic Duffing-Van der Pol equations

Maha Hamed et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical study of the stochastic Duffing-Van der Pol equation with both multiplicative and additive random forcing. The Wiener-Chaos expansion (WCE) technique and the Wiener-Hermite expansion (WHE) technique are utilized in the study to obtain a system of deterministic differential equations (DDEs). The resulting DDEs are then solved and compared with Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. A formula is also introduced to handle the cubic nonlinear term of the polynomials Chaos. The study not only demonstrates the accuracy and ease of the WCE technique in solving cubic nonlinear stochastic differential equations, but also provides insights into the physical understanding of the stochastic solutions through their statistical properties. The WCE of the cubic term in the equation, as well as the influences of damping coefficients and external force coefficient on the techniques and solution behavior, are further investigated.

Numerical Simulation of Van der Pol Equation Using Multiple Scales Modified Lindstedt-Poincare Method

Manoj Kumar et al.

Summary: An efficient perturbation algorithm combining the method of Multiple Scales and Modified Lindstedt-Poincare Techniques is proposed in this paper to solve the equation of Van der Pol oscillator with very strong nonlinearity. The algorithm is shown to satisfy the convergence criterion for both small and large values of the small parameter, proving its efficiency and accuracy through numerical simulations in MATLAB 7.8. The proposed method combines the advantages of both methods and outperforms the Multiple Scales method in terms of convergence criteria.

Summary: A new numerical method based on Bernoulli polynomials was introduced for solving multiterm variable-order fractional differential equations, utilizing an operational matrix of variable-order fractional integration. The method approximated unknown functions and their derivatives by assuming sufficient smoothness, showcasing applicability and high accuracy through illustrative examples and comparison with existing methods. The results indicated the efficiency and superior performance of the proposed technique with fewer basis functions compared to state-of-the-art methods.
