Facile preparation of Ag2S/KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 heterojunction for enhanced performance in catalytic nitrogen fixation via photocatalysis and piezo-photocatalysis

Lu Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel heterojunction composite Ag2S/KTaxNb1-xO3 was synthesized and optimized for enhanced photocatalytic ammonia synthesis. The 0.5% Ag2S/KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 sample showed superior performance compared to pure KTN and Ag2S, with a NH3 generation rate 2.0 times higher than pure KTN under simulated sunlight. XRD, XPS, and TEM analysis confirmed the intimate decoration of Ag2S on KTN nanocubes, enabling efficient electron transfer between the two semiconductors. The band structure investigation revealed a type-II band alignment between Ag2S and KTN, facilitating the effective transfer and separation of photogenerated carriers.

Microstructures and properties of CrxFeNi(3-x)Al high-entropy alloys

Wen Zhang et al.

Summary: A set of Co-free high-entropy alloys with different compositions were fabricated and their solidification microstructures and compression properties were investigated. Different solidification microstructures were observed for different compositions, and the distribution of different phases in the alloys was studied. The strength of the alloys initially decreased and then increased with increasing Cr content, and the rise in strength was mainly attributed to solid solution strengthening, fine crystal strengthening, and precipitation of a certain phase.

Novel platinum-bismuth alloy loaded KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 composite photocatalyst for effective nitrogen-to-ammonium conversion

Xiaojing Li et al.

Summary: A novel heterojunction composite BiPt/KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 (KTN) with optimized Bi and Pt contents was synthesized and showed improved photocatalytic performance in ammonia synthesis compared to pure KTN, 1 %Bi/KTN, and 0.25 %Pt/KTN. The BiPt alloy nanoparticles formed on the surface of KTN nanocubes provided an appropriate Schottky barrier, efficiently capturing and separating photogenerated charge carriers. The loaded BiPt alloy also broadened the material's photoresponse to visible light through surface plasmon resonance, contributing to increased photoactivity. This study not only offered a potential photocatalyst for nitrogen fixation but also proposed new ideas for designing highly efficient catalysts through bimetal alloy modification.

Preparation of Bi2O3/BiOI Step-scheme Heterojunction Photocatalysts and Their Degradation Mechanism of Methylene Blue

Xuechao Jiang et al.

Summary: A Bi2O3/BiOI step-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized using a green calcination method, and its degradation ability was tested and compared with Bi2O3 and BiOI. The results showed that the Bi2O3/BiOI heterojunction had a higher degradation efficiency, possibly due to the stable photoelectrons and holes formed between Bi2O3 and BiOI under the combined effect of the built-in electric field and band bending.

Meshal Alzaid et al.

Summary: The study examined the structural and optical properties of ZnS films deposited on ITO coated glass substrate. Results show that an increase in ZnS layer thickness leads to higher refractive index and extinction coefficient, while decreasing the energy band gap. This is attributed to the increase in grain size affecting the optical characteristics of the films.
