EVALUATING THE 3D INTEGRITY OF UNDERWATER STRUCTURE FROM MOTION WORKFLOWS

Ian Lochhead et al.

Summary: This paper explores the application of SfM in temperate waters, evaluating the impact of water temperature, underwater cameras, and photograph quantity and configuration on SfM accuracy through a series of experiments. The results show that underwater SfM workflows can generate highly accurate 3D models in temperate waters.

Needs and Gaps in Optical Underwater Technologies and Methods for the Investigation of Marine Animal Forest 3D-Structural Complexity

Paolo Rossi et al.

Summary: Marine animal forests are benthic communities dominated by sessile suspension feeders with the ability to form complex three-dimensional (3D) frameworks, crucial for biodiversity and functioning. However, challenges in data collection and analysis, as well as the need for standardized methods and protocols, hinder the proper investigation and conservation of these ecosystems. Advancements in technology are needed to address issues in data acquisition and processing to accurately map benthic habitats and measure structural complexity.

Hyperspectral 3D Mapping of Underwater Environments

Maxime Ferrera et al.

Summary: In this paper, a method for creating hyperspectral 3D reconstructions of underwater environments is presented by fusing data from a classical RGB camera, an inertial navigation system, and a hyperspectral push-broom camera. This method demonstrates the creation of highly accurate 3D reconstructions with hyperspectral textures, overcoming limitations of traditional methods.
