Effect of water and ions on the rheological behavior of a low viscosity ammonium-based ionic liquid

Angel Enrique Chavez-Castellanos et al.

Summary: The ionic liquid [T(6)AC(7)COO] was used to extract copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions from aqueous solutions, and the properties of the ionic liquid and organic phases were studied under different conditions. The presence of water increased the viscosity of the ionic liquid, and the presence of SCN- anions further increased the viscosity. Rheological measurements showed that the ionic liquid and organic phases exhibited Newtonian behavior, but showed viscoelastic characteristics at low frequencies.

Measurement and Correlation of Density, Viscosity, and Surface Tension for Imidazolium Bromide Ionic Liquids [CnMIM]Br (n=2,3, 4) Aqueous Solutions

Yan Ding et al.

Summary: This study determined the density, viscosity, and surface tension of aqueous solutions containing three different alkyl chain lengths (n = 2, 3, 4) of imidazolium bromine ionic liquids (ILs) [CnMIM]Br within a specific temperature and pressure range. The effect of the alkyl chain length on the properties of the solutions was investigated. The experimental data showed that the density and surface tension of the aqueous ILs solution decreased, while the viscosity increased with the increase in carbon atom number in the imidazole ring carbon chain. The strong interaction between IL and water molecules, as well as the interaction between water and bromine ions, were found to be the main factors determining the properties of the solution. These findings provide reliable support for the design and process calculation of chemical absorption cycles using water/IL working pairs.

Adsorption and breaking of hazardous methyl mercury on hybrid structures of ionic liquids and ZnO nanoclusters

Deepak K. Pandey et al.

Summary: The detection and removal of methyl mercury (MeHg) is crucial for environmental protection and human health. Hybrid systems of ionic liquid (IL) and nanoclusters have potential for adsorbing and sensing MeHg. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that IL/(ZnO)4 shows the strongest interaction with MeHg, and increasing the alkyl chain length enhances MeHg adsorption.

Radiative properties of Al2O3 nanoparticles enhanced ionic liquids (NEILs) for direct absorption solar collectors

Melanie L. Howe et al.

Summary: The study focused on the radiative properties of Nanoparticle Enhanced Ionic Liquids (NEILs) with different sizes and shapes of Al2O3 nanoparticles. The addition of nanoparticles increased light absorption capabilities of the ionic liquid, with significant differences observed at smaller concentrations. Different concentrations of NEILs were synthesized to investigate the concentration effect on radiative properties, showing variations in light transmittance based on nanoparticle type and concentration.

Hybrid Structure of Ionic Liquid and TiO2 Nanoclusters for Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Deepak K. Pandey et al.

Summary: This study investigated a hybrid structure of the ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate (C(2)mim TfO) and (TiO2)(n) nanoclusters for efficient hydrogen evolution. Density functional theory (DFT) computations were used to analyze the catalytic performance, revealing that the size of TiO2 nanoclusters significantly affected the electronic properties of the IL. The results indicated that the IL/(TiO2)5 system showed remarkable hydrogen adsorption free energy (Delta G) close to the ideal value, making it the best HER catalyst among the studied systems.
