Microstructure evolution and wear resistance of in-situ synthesized (Ti, Nb) C ceramic reinforced Ni204 composite coatings

Yu Zhao et al.

Summary: Ni204-based composite coatings reinforced with in-situ TiC and (Ti, Nb)C particles were successfully built on 45 steel alloy via laser cladding technology. The addition of Ti and C particles eliminated the large lump structure of NbC and promoted the in-situ generation of the multiphase (Ti, Nb)C, effectively improving the wear resistance of the composite coating.

Microscopic and macroscopic interfacial studies of NbC reinforcement layer on GCr15 bearing steel surface prepared by in-situ reaction method

Nana Zhao et al.

Summary: A micro/nano NbC reinforcement layer was prepared on a bearing steel surface using GCr15 bearing steel and high purity niobium plate as raw materials. The reinforcement layer exhibited dense and gradient layers, with NbC, Fe3C, alpha-Fe, and Cr7C3 as the main phases. The layer showed high volume fraction of NbC ceramic particles and strong interfacial bonding strength.

Heterogeneous nucleation interface between LaAlO3 and niobium carbide: First-principles calculation

Wenwei Song et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the interface relationship between LaAlO3 and niobium carbide and explores the possibility of LaAlO3 as a heterogeneous nucleus for refining NbC using the first principles method. The results indicate that LaAlO3 can act as a moderately heterogeneous nucleus for NbC and refine it.

Adsorption and diffusion of oxygen on metal surfaces studied by first-principle study: A review

Hairui Xing et al.

Summary: First-principle calculations, particularly using density functional theory (DFT), are employed to investigate the structure and properties of oxygen/metal interfaces, specifically focusing on the adsorption and diffusion behavior of oxygen molecules or atoms on metal surfaces. This review aims to contribute to the understanding of adsorption properties and diffusion behavior on a metal surface at an atomic-scale, particularly for those interested in catalytic oxidation and corrosion applications.

First-principles calculation on γ-Fe/La2O3 interface properties and austenite refinement mechanism by La2O3

Xiaoyong Jiao et al.

Summary: The paper calculated the interface properties and interfacial interaction between gamma-Fe and La2O3, and found that La2O3 can effectively inhibit the growth of gamma-Fe boundaries and refine the austenite grains. Three different interface models were analyzed, showing a negative ideal interface adhesion work for all three interfaces. The interfacial chemical bonds mainly consist of ionic bonds and metallic bonds, with Fe-La-OT interface exhibiting the strongest chemical bond polarity.

Tianyi Zeng et al.

Summary: Vanadium and niobium have significant effects on the strength and microstructure of HSLA steels, with NbC and VC carbides playing key roles in inhibiting the growth of prior austenite grains and refining carbides and martensitic blocks. V-bearing steels exhibit higher strength after tempering, mainly due to the resistance to tempering softening provided by VC carbides.
