The Streaming Potential of Fluid through a Microchannel with Modulated Charged Surfaces

Xinyue Bian et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of asymmetrically modulated charged surfaces on streaming potential, velocity field, and flow rate. The modulated charged potentials on the walls of a parallel-plate microchannel are described by a cosine function. The analytical solutions of potential and velocities are obtained by considering the Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) equation and the modified Navier-Stokes (N-S) equation. The results show that the charge-modulated potentials enhance the streaming potential, velocity, and flow rate, and facilitate fluid mixing. Furthermore, the flow rate can be controlled using a low-amplitude magnetic field.

Blood, lead and spheres: A hindered settling equation for sedimentologists based on metadata analysis

Jaco H. Baas et al.

Summary: A revised equation for the hindered settling of non-cohesive particles in fluids is proposed in this study, based on a large dataset from various scientific fields. This equation allows for predictions of settling velocity for different particle sizes, densities, and fluid conditions, with a focus on sediment particles in water. The study also reveals that hindered settling becomes more significant as particle size decreases, and even a small percentage of particle concentration can affect the settling behavior.

Impact of Hydrodynamic and Interfacial Interactions on Scale Formation in a Capillary Microchannel

Amir Hossein Nikoo et al.

Summary: The study presents a model for the kinetics and hydrodynamics of gypsum scale deposition on various rock surfaces, showing a steep decrease in deposition flux over time with a tendency towards stabilization. Higher salinity increases deposition flux, while higher flow velocity results in more deposition on sandstone surfaces.

A four-quadrant flow regime map for two-phase liquid-solids and gas-solids fluidization systems

Zeneng Sun et al.

Summary: Previous research on flow regime mapping in gas-solids and liquid-solids fluidization systems were reviewed. A comprehensive four-quadrant flow regime map was proposed to unify all operating modes in the systems. Different flow directions of fluid and particle velocities were used as coordinates in the map to divide the systems into four groups and discuss transitions and limits of flow regimes. New flow regimes such as GS circulating turbulent fluidization and LS conventional circulating fluidization were also outlined in the map.

Lattice Boltzmann simulation of fluid flow and heat transfer in a micro channel with heat sources located on the walls

Kourosh Javaherdeh et al.

Summary: This study used the lattice Boltzmann method to investigate fluid flow and heat transfer in a microchannel with four heat sources symmetrically located on the upper and lower walls. The results showed that the Knudsen number plays an important role in heat transfer, with convection heat transfer being more significant for the first heat source compared to the second heat source.
