Animal Welfare and the Acknowledgment of Cultural Differences

Summary: Most pigs are raised in modern, commercial, indoor farms worldwide. The debate over whether these systems meet the needs of the animals is ongoing. Pigs are considered sentient beings and their welfare should be taken into account. There are cultural differences in attitudes towards animal welfare. While some argue for harmonization of animal welfare rules globally, the current focus of these rules often fails to address the most significant problems on commercial pig farms.

International perceptions of animals and the importance of their welfare

Summary: Our perceptions shape our behavior and reality, and also impact the lives and welfare of other animals. Cultural differences are an important factor in determining attitudes towards animals and their welfare in different countries. The study found that the welfare of both farmed animals and companion animals is important to the general public in many countries, but there are differences in the level of importance placed on animal welfare across different countries.

Through questionnaire survey and analysis of data, the study found the close connection between food safety, product quality, profit, and animal welfare, and made corresponding recommendations.
