Long-term exposure to low-level air pollution and incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: The ELAPSE project

Shuo Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that long-term exposure to low-level air pollution may be associated with the development of COPD, even below current limit values. Traffic-related pollutants NO2 and BC may be the most relevant risk factors.

Metabolomic signatures of the long-term exposure to air pollution and temperature

Feiby L. Nassan et al.

Summary: Using a global untargeted metabolomic approach, this study identified significant metabolites and metabolic pathways associated with long-term exposure to PM2.5, NO2, and temperature. This is the largest metabolomics study on long-term air pollution to date, the first to report a metabolic signature of long-term temperature exposure, and the first to use independent component analysis (ICA) in the analysis.

Associations between time-weighted personal air pollution exposure and amino acid metabolism in healthy adults

Xinyan Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between air pollution exposure and amino acids in 43 Chinese healthy adults, finding significant correlations between exposures and plasma concentrations of amino acids. Particularly, O-3 and PM2.5 were observed to affect amino acid metabolism in different pathways, with O-3 showing associations with amino acids related to the urea cycle.

Association of fine particulate matter air pollution and its constituents with lung function: The China Pulmonary Health study

Ting Yang et al.

Summary: The China Pulmonary Health study found that long-term exposure to ambient PM2.5 and some constituents, especially organic matter and nitrate, were associated with lower large- and small-airway function.

Plasma metabolites associated with chronic kidney disease and renal function in adults from the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging

Yuko Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to clarify the relationship of plasma metabolites with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal function in humans. The results showed that various plasma metabolites were associated with CKD and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), indicating alterations in multiple metabolic pathways in adults with CKD and impaired renal function.
