Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Sensorineural Hearing Loss: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Navarat Kasemsuk et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the associations between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), as well as the effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy on SNHL. The results showed that participants with OSA had significantly poorer hearing threshold levels (HTL) compared to non-OSA controls, particularly in the midfrequency and high-frequency ranges. An association between OSA and SNHL was found. However, CPAP therapy did not show significant improvements in midfrequency HTL. Further research is needed on these issues.

Increasing obstructive sleep apnea risk is associated with hearing impairment in middle-aged Chinese men-A cross-sectional study

Yu Li et al.

Summary: This study observed the incidence of hearing loss in middle-aged males with different risks for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The results showed that the risk of hearing impairment was significantly increased in the high and intermediate/high risk groups, especially at the high frequency of 4 kHz.

Association of Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome with hearing loss: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Chaoyu Wang et al.

Summary: This study utilizes meta-analysis to investigate the relationship between Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) and hearing impairment. The results show that OSAHS patients have a higher incidence of hearing loss, with a higher prevalence of high-frequency hearing loss.

Prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

Manlio Santilli et al.

Summary: The study found that only a very small percentage of patients reported suffering from OSAS, possibly due to difficulties in diagnosis and lack of dedicated sections in medical records. Introducing questions about sleep disorders, conducting questionnaires, and multidisciplinary approaches could help dentists identify patients at risk of OSAS.
