R. H. Perera et al.

Summary: This paper provides taxonomic treatments for Bionectriaceae, Calcarisporiaceae, Hypocreaceae, Nectriaceae, Tilachlidiaceae, Ijuhyaceae, Stromatonectriaceae, and Xanthonectriaceae, and includes up-to-date DNA sequence-based phylogenies. The study introduces three new families, 12 new species, 13 new records, and one new species combination. The taxonomy, phenotypic and molecular analyses of various families are detailed, along with a list of accepted genera, taxonomic history, morphological descriptions, and ecological and economic importance.

Molecular basis of cycloheximide resistance in the Ophiostomatales revealed

Brenda D. Wingfield et al.

Summary: Resistance to the antibiotic Cycloheximide has been observed in various fungal taxa, with a transition mutation in the ribosomal protein gene being the cause. In the Ophiostomatales order, most genera and species are highly resistant to this antibiotic. Through genome analysis, it was discovered that a transition mutation in the gene coding for ribosomal protein eL42 confers resistance to this antibiotic, suggesting an early evolution of this mutation across all genera in the Ophiostomatales.

Morphological characteristics and phylogenetic evidence reveal two new species of Acremonium (Hypocreales, Sordariomycetes)

Xin Li et al.

Summary: Using chicken feathers as bait, two new Acremonium species, Acremonium globosisporum sp. nov. and Acremonium curvum sp. nov., were collected from the soil of wildlife zoos in China. They were identified and described based on their morphological characteristics and DNA sequences.

Zhi-Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: Karst caves are known for their unique environments, and a study in southwest China found a high diversity of fungi, with 33 new species identified. The majority of these species had not been previously documented in karst caves, highlighting the potential for new discoveries in this ecosystem.

Microplastics levels, size, morphology and composition in marine water, sediments and sand beaches. Case study of Tarragona coast (western Mediterranean)

Nora Exposito et al.

Summary: The Mediterranean Sea is a significant accumulation zone for marine litter, with Western Mediterranean Sea identified as a region of microplastics accumulation. The study in Tarragona coastal region found high levels of MPs in seawater, sediments, and beaches, originating from various land-based sources, wastewater treatment plants, and discharge outlets. It is important to develop protocols and guidelines for MPs analysis to ensure harmonized and comparable results.

Taxonomic studies of Coronophorales and Niessliaceae (Hypocreomycetidae)

S. K. Huang et al.

Summary: The research focuses on redefining taxonomic placements for overlooked fungal genera within Sordariomycetes. Gonatobotrys and Neotrotteria are now classified under Ceratostomataceae based on morphology and phylogeny, while Nitschkiopsis is placed in Niessliaceae and Cryptosphaerella in Sordariomycetes.
