Interval grey number of energy consumption helps task offloading in the mobile environment

Yongsheng Hao et al.

Summary: The mobile device is widely used in various fields. Task offloading is employed to overcome the limitations of processing power and energy supply of mobile devices in the mobile cloud environment. Most research assumes knowledge of the task details for each sub-task, but obtaining such information is often challenging. This paper proposes using grey numbers to express uncertain information and presents a method for evaluating task offloading performance. Simulations demonstrate that our method selects solutions with the lowest energy consumption.

Digital Thread-Driven Proactive and Reactive Service Composition for Cloud Manufacturing

Bo Yang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a proactive and reactive service composition (PRSC) method for CMfg based on digital thread. It establishes a digital thread-driven information interaction architecture and designs the detailed process of PRSC and the constitution of digital thread. It introduces the strategy of proactive SC and the process of reactive service adjustment, which selectively allocate alternative services for subtasks and implement service exception handling based on digital thread. Simulation experiments and a practical case study demonstrate that the proposed digital thread-driven PRSC method effectively reduces the service reservation cost and improves the actual QoSs under uncertainties.

A three-tier programming model for service composition and optimal selection in cloud manufacturing

Ming K. Lim et al.

Summary: This study proposes a three-tier programming model for service composition and optimal selection in cloud manufacturing (CMfg-SCOS), considering the interests of service demanders, resource providers, and cloud platform operators. An improved genetic algorithm called a-i-NSGA-II is developed to efficiently solve the model. Numerical experiments show that the proposed algorithm has better diversity and comprehensive performance at the middle level of the model and better solution quality at the upper level. A case study of an automobile fuel tank assembly enterprise further validates the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm.

Towards Representing Time-Cost Tradeoffs for Service Compositions

Franziska S. Hollauf et al.

Summary: Service Level Agreements need to specify the time and cost of services, and this paper proposes time-cost tables to represent their relationship. Algorithms for calculating the time-cost relationship of orchestrated services are introduced, considering both direct and indirect correlations between duration and cost. The use of these tables allows for optimizing composed services by inferring minimum costs under temporal constraints or checking affordable durations within a given budget.
