Life Cycle Assessment of Residential Air Conditioners Considering the Benefits of Their Use: A Case Study in Indonesia

Selim Karkour et al.

Summary: The study found that the use stage of air conditioners has the largest global warming potential (GWP), representing over 90% of the impact, while copper and nickel have the most significant impact in terms of resource consumption (about 50%). The impacts are highly reliant on a country's energy mix, but can be reduced by introducing better technologies.

A life cycle analysis techno-economic assessment framework for evaluating future technology pathways ? The residential air-conditioning example

Yanjie Li et al.

Summary: A comprehensive life cycle analysis and techno-economic assessment framework is proposed as the first step towards developing an alternative and potentially more intuitive energy systems modelling tool. Using the residential air-conditioning sector in Southeast Asia as an example, the advantages of this methodology in profiling future technology pathways are demonstrated. By utilizing the best available technology, significant emission reductions and cost savings can be achieved.
