Visualization and quantification of water penetration in cement pastes with different crack sizes

Fan Zheng et al.

Summary: This study monitored the capillary absorption process of cement pastes with different crack sizes using X-ray radiography. It was found that cracks provided a direct path for water diffusion and made the water distribution uniform. As the crack width decreased, water content increased, and the influence of cracks decreased with the progress of the water absorption process.

Investigation of moisture transport in cement-based materials using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance imaging

Haitao Zhao et al.

Summary: Moisture transport in CBMs was studied using LF-NMR imaging, and the influences of different factors on moisture transport were investigated. The results showed that the moisture distribution curves had three stages and the moisture absorption height increased with time. The LF-NMR imaging measurements were consistent with the weighing method results.

Application of three self-developed ECT sensors for monitoring the moisture content in sand and mortar

Wentao Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed three types of capacitive sensors to monitor the moisture content in cement-based materials, and found that sensors with internal electrodes were more sensitive to changes in humidity, while external electrode sensors improved the homogeneity of the sensitive field. Additionally, experimental results showed that the capacitance signals of sand and cement mortar increased exponentially with increasing relative humidity.
