Hydrophobic thermal insulation material designed from hazelnut shells, pinecone, paper and sheep wool

Juelide Erkmen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to produce an environmentally friendly, easily accessible, inexpensive and renewable construction composite material with thermal and water insulation properties. Waste papers, hazelnut shells, pinecones and sheep wool were used in the production process. The filling rates of the materials were optimized using the RSM. A hydrophobic surface-active substance was applied to reduce water absorption, microbial activity and mold formation. The specimens exhibited contact angles of 84 to 146 degrees, thermal conductivity of 0.0511 to 0.0861 W/mK, and densities of 0.678 to 0.99 g/cm3. Compressive and flexural strength tests showed high compressive strength, with the highest value of 32.8093 N/mm2 in specimen N25, and the highest flexural strength of 6.352 N/mm2 in specimen N20. A completely environmentally friendly, biodegradable and low-cost material was successfully produced from biomass waste.

Bond strength of GFRP bars to high strength and ultra-high strength fiber reinforced seawater sea-sand concrete (SSC)

Jinjing Liao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the bond strength of glass fiber reinforced polymer bars in sea-sand concrete, finding that substitution of sea sand and seawater for normal concrete had no significant impact on short-term bond strength. Additionally, increasing the concrete strength and polyethylene fiber content improved bond strength, while increasing the embedment length of the bar resulted in decreased bond strength.

Bond behavior between GFRP bars and seawater sea-sand fiber-reinforced ultra-high strength concrete

Jun-Jie Zeng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the bond characteristics of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars in fiber reinforced ultra-high strength SSC through a series of pull-out tests. The results show that larger bar diameter and longer anchorage length lead to bond strength reductions, and adding 0.5% PE fiber in SSC increases the bond strength.

Eco-friendly Geopolymer Composite Based on Non-heat-treated Phosphate Sludge Reinforced With Polypropylene Fibers

Younesse Haddaji et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of polypropylene fibers on the properties of geopolymer composites, revealing that incorporation of up to 1.5% PPF significantly improved flexural strength while slightly reducing compressive strength and density. This research also demonstrated that MK/PS based geopolymers can achieve high ductility with proper reinforcement.
