Validation of Pharyngeal Acid Reflux Episodes Using Hypopharyngeal Multichannel Intraluminal Impedance-pH

Yen -Yang Chen et al.

Summary: This study used HMII-pH technology to validate candidate pharyngeal acid reflux (PAR) episodes and found that 80.0% of the cases were confirmed by HMII-pH testing. The interobserver reproducibility rate was 92.2% based on the evaluation of HMII-pH tracings by two independent experts.

Correlation of Esophageal Mean Nocturnal Baseline Impedance With Markers of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux

Christopher M. Kurylo et al.

Summary: The study found a significant correlation between distal esophageal MNBI and phenotypic and biological markers of LPR, indicating that MNBI has the potential to be used as a diagnostic tool and treatment response predictor for LPR.

Distal Mean Nocturnal Baseline Impedance Predicts Pathological Reflux of Isolated Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Symptoms

Hua-Nong Luo et al.

Summary: This study showed that mean nocturnal baseline impedance (MNBI) in the distal esophagus can predict pathological esophagopharyngeal reflux (pH+) in patients with isolated laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms (ILPRS). Patients with pH+ had lower distal esophageal MNBI values compared to patients with pH- and healthy controls. Therefore, distal esophageal MNBI can be used as a predictive marker for pathological reflux in ILPRS patients.

ACG Clinical Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Summary: This article provides updated recommendations and practical guidance for the evaluation and management of GERD, including pharmacologic, lifestyle, surgical, and endoscopic management. The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has raised concerns about long-term safety and overprescribing. New data regarding surgical and endoscopic interventions have also emerged.

Summary: This study investigated the features of patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) who did not respond to medical treatment. The study found that hiatal hernia and changes in reflux symptom score (RSS) were the most predictive indicators of therapeutic effectiveness in patients with LPR.

24-Hour Multichannel Intraluminal Impedance-pH in Proton Pump Inhibitor Nonresponders vs Responders in Patients With Laryngopharyngeal Reflux

Su Il Kim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the characteristics of reflux in proton pump inhibitor (PPI) nonresponders vs responders in patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) using 24-hour multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) monitoring. The study found that proximal all reflux time in various MII parameters may be helpful in predicting the response to PPI therapy in patients with LPR, providing insights for personalized therapeutic schemes for LPR patients.
